ROBBER'S VICTIM LEFT

Beaten about the head and body and
placed head downward In a barrel of
water, Mrs. Peter Sanko, 85, was kill
ed today by assailant who robbed
the home of 1700 which had been
secreted In a coal bin.
Coroner A. E. Stewart, who exam
ined the body, found bruises on the
face, but said that death was due
' to drowning.
SON OF ACTOR KILLS
HOLLYWOOD. Sept. 38. (AP) A
young woman struck down and killed
on a street here late last night by an
automobile driven by John Huston
36. son of Walter Huston, the actor,
was definitely identified today as
being Mrs. Raoul Roullen, wife of
the noted Brazilian actor, who has
been appearing In Spanish-speaking
films In Hollywood.
Her body was hurled 36 feet through
the air.
Huston and his companion, William
Miller, were ordered to appear at the
Inquest.

4 cups choped red peppers
3 tablespoons salt
4 tablespoons white mustard seed
3 tablespoons celery seed
2 cups sugar, brown
3 cups vinegar
1 stick bark cinnamon
1 teaspoon whole allspice
18 whole cloves
Mix apices and tie in white mus
lin bag. Add to rest of ingredients
and simmer 3 hours or until relish
thickens. Remove spice bag, pour rel
ish In sterilized Jars, seal at once.
Honolulu Conserve,
8 pounds seeded plums
3 cups raisins
4 cups pineapple
1 cup pineapple Juice
cup lemon Juice
H cup orange Juice
8 cups sugar
Mix plums, raisins, pineapple and
juices and cook slowly 35 minutes,
Add rest of Ingredients, simmer un
til thick and Jelly-like. Pour Into
sterilized Jars, when cool seal with
melted - paraffin. Fresh or csnned
pineapple may be used and If desired
one cup of shredded almonds may be
added.
Molded Cottage Cheese
1 packngc lemon-flavored gelatin
mixture
l'i cups boiling water
!4 teaspoon salt
VA teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon lemon Juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup cottage cheese
V cup chopped sweet pickles
6 pimiento stuffed olives, chopped
Pour boiling water over gelatin

Sugar
Select firm oranges with smooth
skins. Wash well. Using sharp knife,
cut Into very thin slices, discard
seeds. Measure and add an equal
amount of water. For Instance, meas
ure a cup of the pulp and then meas
ure a cup of water and pour Into an
enameled kettle. Let stand over night
nd In the morning bring to boiling.
Let stand 4 hours. Cook very slowly
until tender. Let stand over night. In
morning add equal amounts of sugar
and simmer until marmalade Is thick
and Jelly-like. Pour into sterilized
glasses, when cold, seal.
Tomato Sandwiches, Serving 8
10 slices white bread.
4 tablespoons soft butter
8 tablespoons salad dressing
3 tablespoons chopped onions
tablespoons chopped green pep
pers V teaspoon celery seed
teaspoon salt
5 pieces lettuce
6 large slices tomatoes
Arrange bread slices In pairs and
spread with butter which haa been
mixed with dressing and seasonings.
On half the slices add lettuce and
tomato slices, cover with remaining
bread and press together firmly.

Creole Com, Serving S
(Uses Leftovers)
8 tablespoons bacon fat
1 tablespoon chopped onion
8 tablespoons ohopped green pep
pers
V teaspoon salt
3 cups leftover cooked corn
1 egg yolk
8 tablespoons cream
teaspoon sugar
teaspoon paprika
Heat fat in frying pan. Add and
brown onion and peppers. Add salt
and corn. Cook 5 minutes, stirring
frequently. Add rest of the Ingredi
ents, cook one minute. Serve.
Butterscotch Buns
3 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powdei
teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons fat
3-8 cup milk
Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut In fat with knife. Mixing with
knife, slowly add milk. When soft
dough forma, pat out until lnoh
thick. Spread with sugar mixture.

3-3 cup dark brown sugar
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix Ingredients. Sprinkle small por

fin pans. Bake lfl minutes In mod
erate oven. Serve warm with butter,
Cream or Roquefort cheese spreads

tempting over toast or wafers. They
are excellent to serve as appetizers
or with soups or salads.

IS AIM OF OFFICIALS
Every school In Medford Is going to
have a band. That's the announce
ment out today, which has been caus
ing thrills to run up snd down the
windpipes of a lot of boys, already
exercising their lungs in anticipation
of a lot of blowing.
Each grade school and the Junior
high school, in addition the the Sen
ior, which has previously hsd its
band, will boast of an organization
before the year Is out. All will be
directed by F. Wilson Walt, director
of the high school band and
chestra.
There will also be orchestras in the
elementary schools and Junior high
school, under the new program an
nounced.
Instructions will be free of charge
The work is being presented in the
grade schools this week and the re
sponse noted Is indicative of a large
organization in each.
SENATOR TO FISH
Joseph O. Tobln of Ssn Francisco,
who arrived In Medford on the Shasta
this morning to do some steelhead
fishing in the Rogue river, announced
that Senator Clark Burgard of Se
attle la expected here this evening

lodge, "Rogue's Roost, ' on the river.
