By R, Clay fhappell
It', many a long year .Inc. the
once familiar word "eolree" gladden
ed the heart, of .musement lovers
of old Jacksonville and southern
Oregon.
So long it I. since It herslded Its
glad tiding that mayhap there are
some of us who do not know the
meaning or even the pronouncla
tlon of "soiree." If so let us ask
grandma or grandpa or any of the
real old timers. How the old folk.
eyes will brighten .nd .parkle as
they recall those happy social gath
erings of yesteryear.
Human nature, after all, hasnt
changed much down through the
ages and. given the opportunity, we
too can be sociable and friendly and
get even more kick out of a social
evening than grandma did and yet
behave ourselves. At leaat, that's
the conviction of those members of
the Jacksonville Chamber of Com
merce who are aponsorlng the re
vival of soirees in Jacksonville.
Of course dancing will be the
main feature of the soiree, but Just
as an added attraction there . will
be a quaint German beer t garden,
free dutch lunch will be provided
for guests throughout the evening
and from time to time other features
will be added.
The first soiree will .tart on next
Wednesday evening at 8 :30 sharp and
will feature the Oregon Lumberjacka
orchestra In the old U. B. Hotel hall,
where the regular Saturday night
dance, are held.
