Report Session
The Medford Garden club held It
regular September meeting Thursday
evening when Mrs. L. B. Williams
and the president, Mr. T. W. Miles,
nave very Interesting report of the
Illinois Valley flower show which
they attended Wednesday. They re
ported that the flowers were almost
perfect aa to size, foliage and gen
eral growth. The arrangement of
individual exhibit attracted the at
tention of all vial tori and the sel
ection of container for each exhibit
ehowed close and exhaustive atudy of
the Japanese schemes of flower ar
rangement. Mrs. L. S. Williams and
Mr. Lelsnd Mentaer acted as Judge.

Musical Life of
New York City
Mr. Roberta. Ward Bebb, who has
been spending a summer In the east
delving into musical work and en
tertainment, will be returning to
Medford In October to resume her
classes In voice and piano, according
to lettera received last week
from New York, where she haa been
particularly Interested In the opera.
In her Jotter Mrs, Bebb describes
New York aa very "opera minded"
during the past summer, the crowds
filling the Hippodrome consistently
at all performances.
At the presentation of "Carmen."
Mrs. Bebb heard Coo Glade, who ap
peared here last year on the Civic
Muslo association program, sing the
title role, During the paat week ahe
heard John Charles Thomas, Inter
nationally beloved baritone, sing at
the large Brena of . tha Madison
Square Oarden, together with th
Metropolitan Opera chorus, with Ce
sar Bodero conducting.
Many of the New York public, she
stated In her letter, prefer John
Charlea Thomas to Lawrence Tlb
bett. Mrs. Bebb also writes that she Is
seeing all the new plays and musical
comedies, a each week new one are
appearing In preparation for the win
ter' season.
She completed her summer course
In piano and voice at the Institute
of Musical Art of the Jiilltard School
of Minlo about the middle of Aug
ust, frank Damrosch, now dean em
eritus, waa for years dean of the
school. Dr. John Eraklne, musician
and professor at Columbia univer
sity, la president of the aummer
school of 'Julllard. Before the close
of the school a lovely tea, given by
JulllaM on the roof gardens, waa at
tended by Mrs. Bebb, who alao took
voice work during the aummer un
der Fraser Oange, head of the voice
department of Penbody Institute,
and professor for a number of years
at the Royal Academy of London.
The Medford musician also write
that ahe enjoyed tea and meeting
Mme. Andrea Parker at her atudlo
thla aummer. Mme. Parker, sister
of the late Oeorge Andrews of this
city, Is the aunt with whom Oeorge
Edward Andrews la studying voice tn
New York. His mother I also mak
ing her home with Mme. Parker.
Mrs. Bebb waa looking forward to
meeting Mrs. Andrew In the near
future.

Senior high school to atart work

daughter of Mr. and Mra. Chas.
Campbell, and Lieut. Benjamin Har
rell, aon of Joseph Barrel!, were mar
ried in Yuma, Aria.
Both brides are popular members
of the local younger set and gradu
ate of the Medford high school. Mrs.
Hall later attended Northwestern
Business college In Portland and Mrs.
Harrell the University of Oregon,
where she wsa a member of Kappa
Kappa Gamma sorority, and promi
nently known In campus aoclety.
Mr. Hall I editor of the Jackson
ville Miner, weekly newapaper, and
Lieut. Harrell, who graduated In June
from West Point, has been stationed
at San Antonio, Texas, In the United
state army.
Leaving Medford In a surprise
elopement Lieut. Harrell and Mlsa
Campbell continued to San Francisco
the first of the week, where they were
guest of .relatives, and on to Loa
Angeles, where they visited Mr. For
eat woolford, slater of Mrs. Harrell'a
mother, Mra. Campbell, before con
tlnulng to Yuma. They are now on
their way to San Antonio, where they
will make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Hsll will be at home
to their friends at Jacksonville.
