Receive Hooks Additional sets of
50 books for the C. C. C. camp trav

headquarters here said today, making

Accident Reported E. W. Ryan of
430 South Fir street filed an accident
report this morning with the city po
lice concerning a collision at the cor
ner of Fifth and North Central ave
nue with the car driven by M. H.

saying today. All because they saw
the former local flying champion, re
cently transferred to Seattle by the
United Air Lines, walking down the
railroad platform. Interviewed, Mr.
Hall insisted that he hadn't been
riding the train, if he did have a
bag in hand, and announced that he
would take his accuser for a spin
they wouldn't forget, If he heard any
more out of them.
JAIL THIRTY DAYS
Lyle Cain, charged with vagrancy,
waa sentenced yesterday by Justice
of the Peace William R. Coleman to
serve 30 days In the county Jail. Culn
entered the Plaxa restaurant in Ash
land, ordered a meal, ate it. then
ordered some sandwenes to take out.
While the waitress was In the kitch
en getting the sandwiches Cain de
parted leaving his meal unpaid.
The warrant against Cain charges
that he is physically able to work,
but for ten day made no effort to
secure employment. He l a tran
sient. County authorities and the state
police have started a campaign
against auto tramps and other tran
sients, who are classified as "living
by their wits." Walking off without
paying for a meal, mooching' and
"short -changing 'are classified a
living by the wit. The Oregon law
Is rather strict about such wlttlness.
J. C. Young, local youth, arrested
last Saturday while returning from
the Jacksonville Jubilee charged with
reckless driving, was fined 35 and
given until September 16th to pay it.
Young is alleged to have passed a
long line of autos. at a high rate of
speed without due regard for the
safety of others.
The past week 15 or more autolsts
with foreign license plates on their
autos have been hailed Into Justice
court by the state police, fined for
possession of improper licenses, and
directed to procure an Oregon license.
The offenders were fruit laborers
from Washington and California.
More arrest along the same line are
anticipated.
