approximately (800.000 on nine high
way projects, or about half of the
letting ior the two-way session of the
state highway commission, were
opened here today. The complete
awards, most of which are the first
of the nstlonal recovery program In
Oregon, will put to work about 1200
men beginning not later than Sep
tember 10, It waa announced,

Other low bidders on the major Joba

Dlxle-Llme section of the Old Oregon

A total of 66 bids were received on
the Jobs, ranging from (596.607 to
(920,078 on the nine Jobs.
Awards will be announced later to

About the same amount of money
will be spent on- projects to be
awarded tomorrow, the commission
announced. All contractors will con
fer with A. O. Johnson, assistant
federal re-employment agent for
Oregon to work out employment
schedule as provided under the NRA
regulations.
During the morning session Mayor
W. W. Stockwell of Oronta Pass, with
State Senator James Chlnnock and
D. C. Mclntyre, asked the commission
to Improve the Pacific highway with
in their city limits. The cost of the
Improvement would be under (10,000,
they estimated.

for the women's Southern Oregon golf
