REVIEW
By Mary Grelner Kelly.
Once In awhile, story, director and ;
actors all click at once. Then comes
a play like When Ladles Meet."
M. G. M. version of a famous stage j
at Hunt's Crater! an tonight.
Sophisticated and subtle In dia
logue, this super-polite parlor com
edy is polished to 18 -karat brilliance
through Intelligent interpretation.
Given the usual triangle situation,
with unusually honest . and fair-
minded women forming the two Im
portant angles, the author has the
latter meet, admire and understand
each other. Then she brings in the
offending male and shows him up to
both of them. ,
The two ladles of course, are Ann
Harding, the wife, and Myrna Loy,
the authoress, whom the "misunder
stood" husband, Frank Morgan, is
misleading. Then there Is Alice
Brady, the scatterbraln, tactless
widow, and Robert Montgomery, wor
shipful boy friend of the authoress.
who delightfully complicates the
situation.
The acting is flawless, individually
and collectively. The spotlight, an
evolving aura around the group, rests
occasionally a little more heavily on
one set of the shoulders than on an
other. Stage Veteran Alice Brady,
perhaps, holds center stage, a bit
more often than the rest, carrying
the comedy with a deft, sure -lire
stroke. t
But the point this production es
tablishes, is that on the screen, as
well as on the legitimate, when the
right artists get together, Individual
laurels are forgotten, and happily for
all concerned, the play Is the thing.
Laurel and Hardy
Appear on Double
Bill At Craterian
Garbed In outlandish wigs, plumed
hats and costumes of the Robin
Hood tra, Laurel and Hardy make
their latest appearance in "The Dev

production that will occupy one-half
of the Craterian theatre's Friday and
Saturday program. "Dcn't Bet on
Love" with Lew Ayres and Ginger
Rogers featured will be the other
featuie on the same program.
!'The Devil's Brother" has the two
famous comedians as a pair of daring
brigands whose adventures must cer
tainly be the funniest in w,hich
these Inimitable wits have yet been
seen on the - talking screen. They
run the gamut of tomioolery from
flirting with milkmaids and being
pursued by an unexpected bull to
making a narrow escape from a
hangman's nocse and being engulfed
In a variety of other hazardous and
crazy adventures.
There Is more to "The Devil's
Brother" than humor,- although of
course the antics of Its two clowns
play an outstanding part In the film.
certainly makes it easy
to pick the best"

it a caieer. against the wishes of his
father and his sweetheart. After a
meteoric career at tt tracks, he

gives the film unusual dramatic in

COURTHOUSE KEYS
ARE ROUNDED UP
Round -up of the master keys of
the courthouse Is under way this
week by the county court. The mas

the short regime of the former county
Judge. Earl H. Fehl. No accurate in
formation Is at hand as to Just how
many master keys were released. Sev
eral have been turned in. The county
court plans slight changes In the
locks to the county courthouse, to
render the remaining outstanding
keys useless. It la not anticipated
that anyone will endeavor to enter
the courthouse now. but It is In
voked as a precautionary measure.
All doors to county of fires hsve
been ordered locked at the close of
the day's business, as well as the
vault and safes containing valuable
records. A close check will be kept
on master keys.
Last January and February, there
was considerable prowling around the
courthouse at night, by unauthorized
persons. This brought complaint
from citizens without results.
Evidence in the Fehl trial showed
that the ex-county Judge was In pos
session of a master key ere he was
inducted Into office. The state con
tended that Fehl and his lieutenant,
Tom L. Brecheen of Ashland, through
the means of this master key, entered
the clerk's office last December, re
moved ' stickers from ballot pouches..
and a few days later reported to the
grand Jury that "somebody has been
tampering with the ballot pouches."
