"And, remember, no hitting In tfte clinches' Umpire J. J. tinmen
(center) tells Captains George Hen Bel man (left) and J. Verne Shangie
(right) of the Chamhrr of Commerce membership team aa Monday, zero

By ROY 8HREVE.
Henselman 'S Eoacs and Shangle's
Rogues are practicing behind closed
gatea, aa time neara for opening game
In the Medford Chamber of Commerce
drive for new members.
It would surely do your heart good
to see the way these two teama are
training for the big game next week.
s Both teams are keeping a dark se
cret aa to their training camps, but
it Is generally understood that they
meet during noon hours, have skull
practice and lift heavy weights and
toss the medicine ball.
The writer had a personal Interview
with Captain Henselman In his of
fice Saturday morning. - When enter
ing his office I was surprised to see
him and M. N. Hogan flipping ink
wells and cuspidors back and forth
at each other and when I Inquired
as to Just what they were doing, they
informed me it waa Just a little prac
tice to keep the eyea and arms in
trim.
Captain Shangle has a sworn affi
davit to the effect that Shortstop
Collins and Center Fielder Thorndyke
are both Ineligible on account of the
fact that Colllna played three years
in the Texas league and Thorndyke
in the Corn Belt league. Commis
sioners Dr. J. J. Emmena and Ralph
Woodford are investigating the com
plaint carefully.
Captain Bhangle says his team la
rounding into shape nicely except
Jennings TIRES easily, Foy has a
slight INCOME-COMPLEX, Jack Por
ter, .right fielder, has a slight touch
of BOARDFEET, E. E. Wilson, first
baseman, is losing weight under tho
HARD-WARE of daily training, Orant
says his pitching arm la fit as fid
dle and ready for any POLICY the
opposition may suggest. Heath, Leon
ard and Huson, who comprise the bal
ance of the team are hot and raring
to go.
Henselman hunt much to aay
about his boys, except he Is & little
provoked about the affidavit, habeas
corpus, and change of venue that
Captain 8h angle has asked the com
missioners to Investigate. He claims
this is an old trick of the game of
baseball and often result in de
moralizing a team. He predicts, how
ever. It la acting differently on his
team, and they are more determined
than ever.
J. C. Carle, right fielder, had a
poutte spell yesterday when Captain
Henselman called him for not get
ting Into his right position for prac
tice. Carle claimed he was In the
right field and Henselman claimed
he was In the wrong field. Sam Col
ton, bat boy, handed Carle a bat and
Henselman ran into the dug-out.
Captain Shangle almost benched
Fred Heath, Jr., when he caught htm
in secret conversation with Justin
Smith of the Bosca. It waa Just
a little misunderstanding, it waa
found out later, as Heath waa only
trying to sell Smith a first aid kit.
All the boys look good, their uni
forms are In excellent condition, ex
cept Hogan's of the Bosca, who seem
to have a little trouble keeping his
socks up. They are all ready for the
big game to start next Monday and
all are as cool as a piece of restau
rant toast.
Watch for the signal. PLA-A-Y

Here's What YOU Can Do
I
To Help President Roosevelt s
National Administration Recovery Plan
MAYBE you're -wondering just what all
this talk of NRA means, and if there's
some place in the plan for you. There
IS. Here's the dope.
Business is better. All over the country,
men are going back , to work.
"FINE," says the President, "AS FAR AS
IT GOES."
But, the President thinks that unemploy
ment and business can pick up much faster.
The NRA (National Recovery Administra
tion) has worked out a plan to speed things
up. The President wants YOUR help to
make it work 100 per cent.
You are asked to try the plan from now
until the end of the year.
In a nut-shell, this is what he urges:
"Split up the existing work to put
more men on the payroll and raise the
wages for the shorter working-shift so
that no worker is getting less than a liv
ing wage."
Everybody will give up something. Every
body will gain something in the end.
The worker is asked to accept a shorter
working week to give some neighbor a chance
to earn his living. He will work less! have
more time for play; and fewer unemployed
relatives will be dependent on his help.
Business is asked to split-up work and add
to payrolls so that jobs and pay envelopes
can take the place of charity and contribu-
tions this winter. Present profits may be
temporarily sacrificed while next year's cus
tomers are being built.
Never before has there been such a simple
and definite plan for wiping out unemploy
ment and restoring the purchasing power of
all the people. If we all join together, act at
once, unemployment might easily be licked by
Labor Day!
Sign the agreement. Display the NRA
Members seal if you're a business man. Dis
play the NRA Consumer's seal if a consumer.
Everybody has a part to play.
THE EMPLOYERS PART
Bign the President's Reemployment Agreement.
Join with every other employer in the land to
make jobs through shorter hours and distribut
ing work. Raise wages to the minimum sug
gested by the President, at least Abolish child
labor. Cooperate with employees in peaceful
adjustment of opinions. Remember an unem
ployed man is a poor customer for you In tho
loaf run. More and fatter pay envelopes is the
bft way to boost the public's buying power and
row owm buiineM.
THE PUBLIC'S PART
Support those employers and employees who do
their parts to put breadwinners back to work.
Patronize the stores and services displaying the
NRA sign; it means they fully comply with the
President's plan.
THE EMPLOYEES PART
Do your best on the job. Share your hours with
the neighbor who has no work now. Cooperate
with the NRA to make this plan a success.
Remember more can bo done now for workers
through this cooperation of 126,000,000 peoplo
than oan over be dona by discord and dispute.
