BY CLEAR SKIES
Monthly meteorological note for
July, as compiled by W, J. Hutchison,
local meteorologist, show clear sltlea
and warm dry weather with temper'
aturea aomewhat above normal pre
vailed throughout the month. Dally
maximum temperaturee averaged
slightly higher than uaual. The dally
average minimum for the month Is
noticeably high, having been exceed
ed In 23 years of record only In two
previous yean. The highest temper
ature to date for the year 1033 oc
curred on the 14th when the maxi
mum temperature recorded 104 de
grees. The lowest temperature for
July was observed at 47 degrees on
the 10th.
Comparatively high day tempera
tures and the absence of precipita
tion during the month depleted soil
moisture rapidly In the valley and
along the lower slopes of the sur
rounding mountains. Higher moun
tain ranges continued to hold up
fairly well, water for Irrigation ap
pears plentiful and where used suf
ficiently crop development la making
satisfactory gains, although the sea
son remain about two. weeks late.
Weather conditions were excellent for
harvesting and threshing of grains,
No measurable amount of precipi
tation fell during July. On the 7th
and 8th very light showers of short
duration occurred and were recorded
as traces. Normally-rainfall should
total 0.30 Inches for the month. This
shortage Increased the seasonal pre
cipitation deficiency to 2 98 inches at
the close of July. The seasonal total
atanda at 14-88 Inches,
Although drying conditions pre
vailed through the month hazardous
fire weather was at a minimum, due
to a great extent to the percentage of
relative humidity, for the moat part,
remaining In the higher figures. Also,
the absence of thunder and lightning
storms In the high mountains demln
lshed the fire haaard. Forest fires,
usually prevalent In July, were not
e.hly scarce, In the vicinity..

DEFINITELY DEAD
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8. (AP) A
fortnight of weeping In public
places over a lost love has brought
Mrs. Almee Bern pie McPherson-Hut-ton
to the conclusion that her ro
mance with her third and portliest
husband Is dead.
Most of the way serosa the Atlan
tic and all the way across the Amer
ican continent en route home from
a seven months' tour of foreign lands
the Angel us Temple evangelist made
extra-legal answer In the public
prints to Husband Button's suit for
divorce.
And yesterday, when ahe came
back to the city where ahe made
drama, and religion synonymous
terms, her entry was heralded from
afar, in keeping with her personality
and In the manner of an Injured
queen returning to the sympathy of
her dovoted subjects.
Hut ton. former choirmaster at
Almee 'a million dollar temple out
near Sunset Boulevard, credited him
self with a fine feeling of dignity as
he did his three a day In a Hollywood
theater as a torch singer whose act
sandwiches in between the dervish
gyrations of a dozen scantily-clad
chorines.
"Why," he asked, apprised of his
wife's wish to see him, "should I
make myself redlcuious by helping
to stage such a scene? She has
known for months -hat I'm through
with temple theatricals.'
He teferred, evidently, to bis role
of the bearded Pharoah In Almee s
Biblical opera, one of her devices to
bring spectacle to the "Pour Square
Gospel' -
Whereupon he obligingly faced
photographers again with the round
faced smile that landed him a con
tract at a comfortable salary and
launched him on a stage career. He
varied poses, not forgetting to be
pictured with the chorus girls and
again at a stove to betoken his bach
elordont, he signified be was through
with marriage.
A conference of attorneys, the sole
concrete action In the day's welter
of words, brought the adamant state
ment by Hutton that a. reconciliation
was "out of the question.'
Almee will leave within a montft
on an extensive preaching tour. She
rejected offers to preach In theaters.
