If, every so often, you like to alt
back quietly and look life In the
face, just sink into a seat at the Rl-
alto tonight or tomorrow and view
It through the eyes of the old maes
tro, Lionel Barrymore, whose latest
picture. "Sweepings'' la a memorable
portrait.
Thnie Isn't much plot to this play
but you won't miss It that is. un
less you're just one of those . people
whose own life Is necessarily hinged
upon a succession of seething com
plications.
But there Is so much of every sue-
cessful merchant and business man
In the characterization of Lionel
Barrymore. that It would be hard for
his counterparts In the audience to
give this actor credit for his vivid
creation.
Finely drawn also the the rotes
of his children In the piece, who typ
ify the inevitable result of too much
wealth and too little charcter build
ing. William Oargon perhaps does
the best job of being a good -for-1
nothing son. Helen Mack, as the
wronged shop girl who hits sudden
ly on blackmail as suitable rets Illa
tion alsd does a vivid bit of acting.
And to supplement "Sweepings"
which has several smiles but no
laughs. Is a come-back comedy of
the late inimitable Fatty Arbuckle.
