Rainfall Light The federal weather
bureau reported that the rainfall In
the valley was light, with a alight
trsce falling In town at midnight,
and a light shower at the municipal
airport. W. J. Hutchinson, meteor
ologist, stated that the rainfall was
ellghtly heavier In the mountains,
and In this vicinity seemed greater
near Roxy Ann. Thla waa the first
rainfall, since July 7 and 8 when
traces were recorded.

camp, who received severe burns sat
urday when working on an auto, was
reported In an Improved oondltlon
at the Sacred Heart hospital today
He sustained serious burns on both
arms and shoulders. There was kero
sene on bis clothes when he was fix.

the annual rally and celebration fit
the Sunset home in Eugene will be
held Sunday, August 20, with a pro
gram of speeches and muslo at 10:30
a. m. At 2 o'clock reports of the
year's work and other matters will
be taken up. Families are requeated
to bring their own lunches, and the
home win furnish coffee. Sunset
home Is a non-profit sharing Institu
tion for lderly people of any na
tionality and denomination.

Home from Fair Mr. and Mra, F.
E. Nichols and daughters, Lola and
Mavis, have returned from a five
weeks' trip through the east and mid
dle west. Including a visit to the
world's fair. They visited friends In
Wisconsin and Iowa and In the latter
state attended the Nlchola family re
union at Esthervllle, where Mr. Nich
ols' parents celebrated their fiftieth
wedding anniversary. All members of
the Immediate family and their fam
Ulea were present. Returning, the
Nlchola also spent some time in Yel
lowstone national park. They were
away from Medford more than five
weeks.

NEW YORK. Aug. I. (AP) The
motive that led Karl Cortlandt Schuy
ler, former United States Senator
from Colorado, to veil hi Identity 11
daya as he lay dying from lnjurlea In
flicted by an automobile, remained
undetermined today.
The 58-year-old lawyer and business
man. a leading figure In Denver for
years, died lsat night at Lenox Hill
hospital. The cause of death waa a
fractured pelvis suffered when an
automobile knocked him down In
Central Park July 17.
Schuyler declined at first to go to
a hospital and when he finally con
sented, police and hospital authorl
tlea said, be was entered under the
name of "Jamea Evana." Last Friday,
when Informed that his condition was
grave, he Identified himself to hos
pital attaches and asked that hie wife
In Colorado Springs be notified,
Mrs. Schuyler, the former Alsena
Shepard ot Colorado Springs, hurried
to New York and with a son, Karl C.
Schuyler, Jr., waa present when he
died. They planned to take the body
to Denver today.
Schuyler, who was registered at the
St. Regie hotel, was walking In Cen
tral Park when an automobile driven
by Frank Spangnoll knocked him
down. Spangnoll was not held.
Eleven building permits were la-
sued In the city of Medford for the
month of July, totaling In money
88615, records at the city building de
partment revealed today.
This amount la a substantial In
crease over last year's record of $2306
for 10 permits Issued In July.
Two new permits were Issued the
last day of last month, going to Ar
