Gloria Stuart, screen leading 'woman,
and Blair Gordon Kewell, her sculp
tor husband, added their marriage to
the list of broken - Hollywood ro
mances today when they announced
a trial separation.
Miss Stuart said they had agreed
to live apart for a year but that
divorce had not been discussed.
"We feel our love Is strong enough

ley Farmers Cooperative Oil associa
tion wbs Incorporated here yesterday
with, a capital afcoclc of $10,000 with
1000 shares at 10 each.
The association Is sponsored by the
Grange, but membership ts open to
ail farmers. While the primary pur
pose of the association la to handle
oil and petroleum products, articles
provide that anything used on the
farm may be handled.

Thursday Evening
For Artisan Life
On Thursday evening, July 3 at
the K. P. hall, Fifth and Grape
streets, the Grants Pass and Medford
assemblies of the Artisan Life asso
ciation will hold a public joint in
stallation. Mr. Quillen, head of the
field department, Jerry Sayier, su
preme secretary and Minnie Schmid,
Juvenile supervisor for the associa
tion will be present'.
An attractive program is being ptc- ;
pared, Mr, Sayier will 'entertain )n
his Inimitable manner. He will be.
remembered as the popular song
leader -when the Grange convention
last met in Medford.
At 70 Minnie Schmld will reor
ganise a juvenile assembly. The
junior -work for this meeting will be
exemplified by the Grants Pass Jun
iors and will be followed by ice cream
and cake, a treat from. Mrs. Schmld.
In future the work will be carried
on by Ella Gould, Juvenile superin
tendent for Medford assembly. The
adult work will follow the junior work

A woman hitch-hiker got a "lift'
by throwing rocks at passing cars on
the Pacific highway north of here
yesterday. Answering complalnta, an
officer picked her up. She was in an
over-wrought mental state, presum
ably from the heat, fatigue and hun
ger, the officer aaid.
She gave her name as Pearl Elliott,
25, and said she was returning from
Portland to New Mexico to her hus

monthe, a steady increase tn build
ing has been experienced in Medford,
permit issued through the city
building department revealed today.
During the month of July last year
hulking permt totalled 2305. Al
ready this year for the month of
July the total la $9575.
