Eakln are leaving today by motor for
Salem and Portland. Mrs. Eakln will
visit Mrs. V. MacDonald In Salem fqr
about ten days. Mr. Eakln plans to
return here either Tuesday of Wed
nesday after attending to business

License Issued A marriage license
was Issued at the clerk's office to
Melvln Hands&ker, 18, and Eleanor
Jones, 19, of Ashland. He is a native
of Oregon and she of Oklahoma, the
record shows. He listed his occupa
tion as a laborer.

Dr. Hoffman Is well-known In Med
ford. having come here In 1920 to
enter practice as a Chiropractor of
the old school. Sickness necessitated
a year of rest during which he com
pletely regained his health.
Meeting Thursday W. C. T. U. will
meet Thursday afternoon at 2:1
clock at the Y. W. C. A. parlors, with
a program prepared by the young
people. It was announced Saturday.
An address on matters of great im
portance to the organization will be
given and a full attendance Is de
sired.
Cars Stolen Lee Watson's Ford
roadster was stolen from the corner
of Front and Main streets at 9:25
o'clock Friday evening, a report at
the city police station shows. L.
Rigga of 109 Vancouver avenue had
his Essex coach stolen from his home
some time Friday night. It was recov
ered Saturday morning by city police
on the midway road.
Accident Reported E. R. Yocom of
Medford reported to the office of
Sheriff H. Lister Friday morning that
his machine had been Involved in
crash with that of L. M. Applegate
of Grant Pass at 1:10 a. m., when
Applegate had turned out across the
highway from behind a gasoline tank
truck and trailer outfit Grants Pass

Fuilerton 'Fined Clyde Fuilerton
of Roseburg was fined $75 and costs
in Justice court Saturday afternoon
when he was found guilty of reckless
driving. The original charge of driv
ing while under the Influence of in-1
toxlcatlng liquor, was reduced to the
other charge. Fuilerton figured in a
collision on the highway near here In
January.
Receive News of peath Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Pearce have received word
of the death on July 7th of their
brother-in-law Charles H. Jones of
Pomona, Calif. Death came after a
lingering Illness of several months.
Mr. Jones was well known In Eagle
Point as he had visited here often
with his wife, Lelah Fryer Jones at
the Pearce home. The funeral will be
held in Pomona July 11.

mitted that he had been picked up
several times, although never con
, victed on any charge.

and guests enjoyed a picnic on Pow
ell creek the Fourth, The climax cf
the excursion was Mrs. Lofton's won
derful picnic dinner. Those present
were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lofton of
William Creek neighborhood. Mrs.
Emory Butt of Williams, Mr snd
Mrs. Maurice Butts of Medford and
Mr. and Mrs. Verne Richardson and
son Larry of Provolt.
Fourth of July Picnic A real old-
fashioned community get to gether
picnic was enjoyed by the residents
of the Williams creek and Provolt
neighborhoods on the Fourth of July.
The picnic was sponsored by the Pro
volt. and Williams Sunday schools. A
community dinner waa served which
consisted of all the good things on
the calendar of cookery, at which
profession he ladles out our way are
accomplished artists. After allowing
their dinners to settle for about an
hour the guests were served with tee
cream and cake. An Interesting talk
on Bible and ancient history by Pro
fessor Vorhees was part of the pro-
gram. Professor Vorhees la the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Smith of
Provolt. The children and young
folks greatly enjoyed swimming The
fireworks were continuous all day
long. About a hundred were present
and all had a good time.

Medford for the past four years, pars
ed away at his residence. 628 N.

after an Illness of the past several

Mr. Lucas was born In Nebraska.
September ft. 1871. where he spent
his early life, and in 1896 he was
united In marriage to Kathryn Twigg
In Vernon county, Missouri. Ten
children being born to this union,
seven surviving. Mrs. Kathryn Mor
ley, Mrs. Phillip Hoffman of Lozier
Lane, Miss Geneva Lucas at home.
John, Arden, Eugene and Joseph
Lucas. His widow. Mra. Kathryn
Lucas also survives, as does one
brother, Claude Lucas of Colchester.
Illinois, two sisters, Mrs. Stella Arm
strong, and Joiephlne Hadseli of Arkansas.

Richard Leroy Howsley. Infant son
of Mr. and Mis. William M. Howsley,
residing near Tiible Rock, passed away
at the family residence Saturday
morning after a short Ulnes due to
pneumonia. Besides his parents,
there are three other children. Cal

at home. Funeral services will be
held at the graveside In the Central
Point cemetery, Monday afternoon at
