PORTLAND, July 7. f AP) There
waa iom Improvement suggted In
lat trading in the local egg market.
While there hu been no change noted
In quotable prlcea Insofar as top qual
ity was concerned, much of the re
cent shading has been eliminated.
Most sales of extras are being made
todsy at 18c dozen, while up to now
most of the business had been around
15a. l6c although the association has
reported that it has rigidly main
tained its 18c mark.
The Improvement In the undertone
of the trade was suggested by the
fractional betterment In the buying
prices from producers. In fact, some
of the former very low resale prices
have been boosted at least lc dozen.
No change In values was announced
by the Pacific co-ops.
Market for butter continued to re
flect steadiness and even strength at
the latest advance In price forced here
by sentiment against those who were
holding down prices on the exchange.
While the general buying price on
No. 1 butterfat here was 24c, as high
as 35c was being paid locally. Occas
sional reports from the country sug
gest premiums also available there.
Chicken markets continued more or
less of steady character. An active
demand was suggested In late trading
along front avenue commission row.
i Dressed turkeys continued In csll.
Market for country killed meats
continued good. Better prices were
met In spots for veal, hogs and lambs
with a rather fair movement of beef
Into consuming channels.
First peaches out of The Dalles to
reach the wholesale trade were re
ported. The stock came at 91 for
wrapped and packed.
First supplies of home grown gar
lic of the season were reported with
sale of 140 lb. The market has "been
exceptionally good of late, with only
California offering.
Very erratic tone was shown for
berries during the day. Sales of rasp
berries, blackcaps, loganberries and
currants were steady to a trifle lower,
but strawberries held better.

NEW YORK, July 7. iTTV-Stocks
aurged through a 7,000.000 share mar
ket today to an Irregular closing af
ter a strenuous early rise of $1 to $4.
Heavy profit taking swept through
the list moat of the afternoon, but
prices lifted again Just before the
close.
With the dollar dropping to 70 cent
valuation as measured by gold cur
rencies, speculative pulses beat wild
ly, especially on the stock exchange
where the tape fell as much as 26
minutes behind. Volume waa one of
the largest of the past three months.
Wheat and corn, after rising 1 to 2
cents, finished with losses of equal
