SHARKEY "IN PINK" FOR
BATTLE WITH CAMERA
By HERBERT V. BARKER.
AMoclatrtl Preu Sportf Writer
NEW YORK, June 27. (AP)
Prlmo Camera may expect to catch
Jack Sharkey out of condition when
they atep Into the ring of MadUon
Squnre Oarden'a Long Island Olty
bowl Thursday night, but If he doea,
he'll run Into an unpleaaant surprise.
Jack, at 30, won't be the Sharkey
of a few yeara ago perhaps, but he'll
be In flrat-clasa ahape just the aame,
trained to the minute and ready for
the long 18 -round route.
An examination by Dr. Vincent Nar-
dlello. of the medical ataff of the New
York State Athletlo commission, ef
fectively disposed of the question of
the champion's condition.
"Sharkey Is In better ahape physi
cally and mentally," Dr. Nnrdlello aatd,
than he waa when I examined him
i year ago for hla tight with Max
Schmellng. His disposition is greatly
Improved. He waa too much on edge
laat year, too nervous. Nervoua ex
haustion la more tiring than any
amount of physical effort, Z would
say Sharkey la every bit as ready as
Camera."
Sharkey, as a matter of fact, never
has looked better than he did yester
day In a sltzllng two-round workout
with Hans Blrkle, rugged German
warrior, at hla training camp In
Orangeburg, N. Y. The champion waa
punching viciously to the body with
hla right hand, snaking punches home
with lightning speed, and twice shook
up Blrkle with left hooks that trav
eled only Inches.
Camera, meanwhile, wound up his
intensive preparations at Pompton
Lakes, N. J., by boxing three rounds
wtih Harold Mays and two against
Arthur Huttlck. Both found the huge
Italian easy to hit but hard to hurt.
Competent boxing critics expressed
surprise over Prlmo'a improvement,
especially In boxing skill.
Camera plans no more boxing and
will take only enough exercise until
the night of the fight to keep him
self at top condition. Sharkey ex
pected to wind up boxing today.
The betting odds continued to favor
Sharkey at 0 to 6.
Word waa received today from Mack
LIUard, Medford promoter, . that he
had been unaole to sign up wrestlers
of sufficient caliber to warrant stag
ing hla usual Wednesday ahow at
the Armory and consequently the ar
mory will be dark tomorrow evening.
LIUard la angling for a match be
tween 8 1 render Lewis, or Jim Brown
ing, and some good opponent, and
hopes to be able to announce atgnlng
of a flrat-clasa tussle for a week from
Wednesday.
