Fishing Again Delayed The river
la a little high for fishing but la
dropping again, according to "Rain
bow" Gibson. It will probably take a
couple of days 'for the water to get
down to normal and then there should
be lots of salmon. Gibson states that
he has Information from Gold Beach
that the water la too high there for
good fishing but that thousands of
salmon are still coming up the river
and he feels certain that there will

early Wednesday morning to pay a
bill at the Three Cs Lumber com
pany. When ht got home and count
ed bis money he found that he was
935 short. He called back to places
where he had traded but could find
no trace of the money until he call
ed the lumber office. There he was
told by Jack Cooley that the money
had been found on the counter and
had been placed In the till. Gibson
felt so lucky that he presented Cool

rally In the rails gave the list a fairly
strong undertone at the close, al
though early gains In some specialties

NEW YORK, June 1. (AP) The
New York American says In a copy
righted article that Russell T. Sher
wood, long-hunted "mystery man"
of the James J. Walker case, has re
turned to deny that a now-famous
safe deposit box which he rented ever
held wealth belonging to Walker.
Grown gray, thin and nerve-wracked
since he vanished 21 months ago,
Sherwood was found living with his
wife In a fashionable suburb of New
York. Hla exact whereabout were
not disclosed but there were report
that he has been living in New Jer
sey, near Summit.
Sherwood, displaying emotion, de
nied he ever was Walker's fiscal
agent. He disappeared, he aald, be
cause he feared Investigator Samuel
Seabury, then digging away at tfc
Inquiry which culminated in Walk
er's resignation as mayor, would pry
Into "my friend Jim's' private af
fairs. The long-missing witness, described
by Seabury as rising from an obscure
accountant's post to handle 1,000,
000 In various brokerage accounts,
said that he Is now "broke and Job
less." Newspapers said he is living
In a 200-a-month apartment.
Although Sherwood is living under

vacy, he said he was ready to come
forth and answer questions of au

came Walker's bride In Prance after
a divorce dissolved his first marriage.
All that Walker ever had In the
safe deposit box which was held
Jointly by the former mayor and
Sherwood waa a piece of Jewelry,
Sherwood declared. He said. It was
entrusted to the mayor by a friend
who wished him to sell It.

Fred Burnham, well known fporta
man of the Pacific coast, arrived In
Medford yesterday from the south,
following completion of a holiday at
Tahiti, and. made arrangements for
several Oregon fishing trips.
He called at the Jackson County
Humane shelter to get his two dags,
who spent the winter here. He took
"Buster" up the river with him and
"Rd" will be shipped south tonight
by the Humane Society to remain In
San Francisco with Mrs. Burnham
until she comes to the Rogue River
valley in July to spend a portion of
the summer at the Burnham river
lodge.
Mr. Burnham was loud In tits
praise of the Humane Shelter here
and the service extended by the Hu
mane society, describing It as equal
to any found on the coast.

In the Medford district, were mailed
out today from the local offices, it
was announced, and the sealed bids
will be received there on June 5.
Expenditures for each camp will ap
proximate 92000.
It was also announced today that
Camp Coquille, F-4-3, located near
Powers, has been transferred to the
Eugene district, as has camp Co
quilla. P-20-7, eight miles east of
Coquille. The Diamond lake camp.
F-35, has been transferred into the
Medford district from the Eugene
district.
Staff Sergeant Joseph V. Rogers
of the quartermaster's corps, has re
ported for .duty in Medrord, from
Fort McDowell, California, and will
act as procurement clerk here.
