Tiiey couldn't carry bom all tb
full they got, when thay went Min
ing with Al Plctael That's the story
game warden and eportamen, who
visited Kelly Slough Wednesday 200
atrong are telling. (The one little aim
perch, which got caught, was too
allppery for the river reformists.)
With an oftlcial state permit, and
a gallery oftppeetators, the delegation
left Med lord In the morning
to clean the slough of carp, consid
ered detrimental to the healthy pro-
greaa of other fish life.
Notified of the project through the
press, sportsmen and fish hungry
folk from all sections of the valley
gathered on the banks of the slough
and In canoes at an early hour to
await developments. Arrangements
. for Icing the fish had been complet
ed In advance at the local storage
house.
Oame Wardens Rodney Roach of
this city and Officer Malcolm of
a rants Pass were present to see that
the law was not disregarded In any
detail.
Following much maneuvering by
experienced aelners, who assured Mr.
Plche that they knew how to handle
the nets, they were lowered Into the
high waters.
The proper time was allowed for
the fish to enter, then all hands were
put to the lines. Much tugging
brought the net to shore and a little
sun perch. Its only cargo, flipped
from the net to return to water, but
was grasped by an ambitious pho
tographer, who held It captive long
enough for Horace Bromley of the
California Oregon Power company to
srlnd out a motion picture.
Additional Instructions were passed
about and a second drift was at
tempted The seln wss lowered "way
down low." It became very heavy
without delay and the faces of the
seiners brightened. A second rjeacn.
lng was accomplished and some
flaherman's boat, long water-ioggoa,
was turned out of the net.
Two young men In a canoe, etar.
tied by the find, which had all the
appearances of a whale as It first
became visible, turned over and went
to the bottom with their craft. They
came up a few minutes later, blowing
bubbles, but with no carp In their
bookets.
So Al Plche and his seiners came
home I But far from discouraged,
Mr. Plche Insisted today. He's going
to get another permit in July or
.August, when tite water is low, ana
he's going to bring the carp to the
surface, seines or no seines, and fur
thermore, ho added today In defense
of his party, "Wednesday was the
best day of the year, and we had a
good crowd.

With good weather over Sunday
and Memorial day, r. W. cnausee,
manager of the Medford Municipal
golf course, hopes to have many of
Med fords publlo oourse golfers qualify
for the spring tourney there. Many
have already qualified, and prospects
are for a much larger tourney than
was held last year.
Ohauase has ordered a new fair
way mower, which will be here soon,
and although ths fairways are In
good shape now they will be much
better when the mower geta Into ac

since the recent rains, and are smooth
and level.
