Definite signs that the sun of pros
perity will shine again upon the Ore
gon lumber business were revealed
here Wednesday by James H. Owen,
manager of the Owen-Oregon Sales
company, who announced that the
local company has been awarded
contracts for furnishing 140,000 feet
of lumber to the government for con
struction of civilian conservation
corps camp, buildings In California.
The contract was awarded, Mr.
Owen stated, with a two days' lim
itation for fulfillment and the plan
ing mill at the Owen-Oregon plant
was operating Tuesday night for the
first night session In two years to
fill the order. Wednesday night the
140.000 feet of lumber will movi
from Medford south. It had been
cut up into lengths to form the
portable buildings to be used In the
California camps.
This one particular order. Mr.
Owen described as characteristic of
many coming the way of the lumber
company, which Illustrate definitely
that business In this particular field,
at least, is on the Increase.

Postponement of the annual Med
ford Flower show necessitated by the
failure of Old Sol to warm the blos
soms Into choice blooming was an
nounced today by the Medford Gard
en club. The. show, 'according to new
arrangements will be held June 7th
and 8th at the high school gymnas
ium. The change was announced by
Miss Helen Carlton following the
meeting of the committees at the
home of Mrs. H. D. McCaskey.
When Garden club members real

The show will open at 8 o'clock the

will be closed by then.
The club members feel aure that
roses and other flowers will be bloom
ing abundantly by the seventh of
June and are anticipating a show up
to the established standard for south
ern Oregon flower fanciers.
As a special feature of this year's
show, Miss Carlton announoed today
that D. S. Libber, assistant superin
tendent of the Crater LaHe National
park and park naturalist, will address
the flower show crowd at 2 :30 o'clock
the afternoon of June 8th on the
relation of trees, flowers and rocks
in the Cascade district. He will also
offer advise to campaigners In the

Mrs. A. E. Reames returned from

All world war veterans of Medford
were urged to pay honor to their
fallen comrades .by wearing a mem
orial poppy on Friday and Saturday,
May 20th and 37th, In a message Is
sued today by Lee Garlock. comman
der of post IB of the American Le
gion. Commander Oarlock declared
that the wearing of the poppy Is the
individual way to show remembrance
for the war dead and devotion to
the Ideals for which they gave their
lives. The message stated:
On Friday and Saturday, May
26th and 37th, America, will pay Its
annual tribute to the men who gave
their lives In defense of the country
In 1617 and 1918 by wearing the
memorial poppy. I am sure that
every world war veteran and all oth
er patriotic citizens of Medford will
wear this token of remembrance on
that day. Wearing the poppy means
that we have not forgotten our com
rades who fell amid the popples of
France and that we are carrying on
for America In their spirit.
"The popples will be offered on
the streets here by the women of the
American Legion Auxiliary, our wives,
mothers, sisters and daughters. They
have volunteered for this work, giv
ing their services without the thot
of personal gain- Disabled veterans
have made the popples at the U. S.
Veterans hospital In Portland. The
contributions received from the sale
of the red paper popples will go en
tirely to the relief work of the needy
veterans and their famllee. Be aure
not only to wear a poppy on poppy
day. but be sure to wear an Ameri
can Legion and American Legion
Auxiliary poppy."
