NEW GENERAL GAS
LAUNCHED TODAY
One of thel moat spectacular mer
chandising campaigns In the history
of the northwest was launched today
by Oeneral Petroleum Corporation in
connection with the initial public
offering of it new motor fuel, Gen
eral Four-Star gasoline.
The campaign makes use of many
media of publicity. Newspaper apace,
radio. billboards. station signs,
streamer, wind-shield stickers and
novelties have all been conscripted
by the company in this tremendous
sales effort.
"Eight years ago. General Petrol
eum launched a similar campaign
when It first entered the northwest
field,'' Ralph G. Bowman, assistant
general sales manager, said yesterday.
"Publlo reception and endorsement
of Its products at that time were
phenomenal, and it la anticipated
that the present campaign will be
even more resultful.
"Newspaper space will carry the
major part of the sales burden. Gen
eral Petroleum, like other major In
dustrial units, having proved to it
own FHtisfactlon that there Is no
substitute for newspaper advertising.
All other elements In the campaign
will tie in with the newspaper ef
fort." Back of the Introduction of Gen
eral Petroleums new motor fuel, to
be known as new General Four-Star
gasoline, lies one of the romance
stories of the petroleum Industry.
Years of research, study and engi
neering, and the addition of new re
finery equipment, costing. in excess
of (1,000,000, were required to pro
duce the gasoline, which petroleum
chemists have pronounced the most
highly efficient motor fuel refined to
date.
"This gratifying result was finally
brought about by the gradual devel
opment of two new processes In gas
oline refining, processes which liter
ally oreak up and rearrange the mo
lecules of gasoline In such a way that
they become stabilized " Mr. Bow
man stated. "The technical expla
nation la fascinating, but too In
volved to be clear to the lay mind
Perhaps I can make It understandable
by saying that in their original forms
the gasoline molecules are 'on the
loose.' They're not fixed, and conse
quently they represent uncontrolled
and wasted power. By changing their
character and stabilizing them, this
power la brought under control and
made wholly available to the mo
torist." It Is because of this controlled
power, Mr. Bowman added, that the
new General Four-Star gasoline has
a higher anti-knock rating, starts
quicker, picka up much faster and
makes a much greater mileage rec

ANGLER LANDS FISH AND
ANOTHERS ROD AND REEL
BEND, Ore., May 32. (AP) A flash
of a big redslde cut the waters of
twin lakes and widening, concentric
ripples marked where a fly had been.
A. Dackaff, angling from a boat,
marked the spot. Again, this time
clumsily a large trout shot out of
the water, falling strangely to the
surface. Once more, and Dackaff
saw the flash of a large spinner dan
gling from the redslde'a Jaw.

SAN FRANCISOO, May 23. (VP)
King Tut, Minneapolis welterweight,
slept today in a San Francisco emerg
ency hospital after being knocked out
in the fourth round of his 10-round
match with Babe Marino of San Fran
cisco here last night.
Hospital attendants said he suffer
ed no apparent Injury but may have
been hurt internally. A further ex
amination will be made today.
Tut claimed a foul, but It was dis
allowed. The blow looked io ring-
slders like a clean right to the body.
As Tut went down the crowd of
6,000 yelled, apparently divided be
tween thinking the match "an act"
or "a whale of a fight." Marino bit
