CONVENTION CITY
PENDLETON. May 19 (AP)
Oeorge Winslow of Tillamook was
elected grand master of the Oregon
lodge of the Independent Order of
Odd Fellows, and Tillamook was se
lected as next year's convention city,
at yesterday's concluding session of
the annual convention.
Charles Pool of Eugene was elected
deputy grand master, and F. M. Sex
ton of The Dalles was chosen as grand
warden. E. F. Sharon of Portland
was named grand . secretary: G. W.
Houck of Portland, grand trustee of
the lodge home, and P. L. Hubbard
was elected grand trustee of the en
dowment fund.
The election of grand warden was
the most earnestly contested Incident
in the balloting. Those nomlated
were Sexton. George Houck of Port
land, Ralph Russell of Boseburg, and
A. W. Poster of Portland.
The new officers were Installed.
Eight hundred lodgemen enjoyed a
cowboy breakfast at the roundup
arena with Eureka lodge of Pendleton
as host.
Although It rained at times during
the huge parade, this did not dampen
the spirits of the hundreds of per
sons who participated, nor spoil the
colorful features of the spectacle.

Carl C. Donaugh of Portland will be
appointed United States attorney for
Oregon. Donaugh Is chairman of the
state Democratic committee.

Washington Pie.
114 c flour
3 t baking powder
14 t salt
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
1 cup powdered sugar
l-s run water
sift flour, baklnjt powder and salt
toeether three times; beat eggs, add
sugar gradually and beat well, then
add nart of the flour mixture ana
alternate with water; finally, add the
vanilla and pour into two round cake
tins, 35 minutes at 325 degrees.
Filling.
1 cup milk, scalded, add
1 egg, well beaten with
2 T granulated sugar
2 T cornstarch
2 T milk
& t vanilla
V t lemon extract
Stir constantly until smooth and
thoroughly cooked, then pour on one
layer of the "pie" and cover with the
other layer; sprinkle powdered sugar
or spread strawberry Jam on top.
George Washington Nut Tie.
3 egg yolks, beaten
li cup sugar
Vi cup melted butter
1 cup dark Karo"
1 cup shopped nuts
1 cup cocoanut
1 t vanilla
t salt
3 egg whites, beaten
Mix well and fold. In beaten egg
whites last; bake In uncooked shell at
450 degrees .for 25 minutes and at
325 degrees for 25 minutes.
Mary's Oatmeal Cookies.

114 cups oatmel
2 eggs, beaten
1 T sugar
1 T molasses
H t baking powder
I t vanilla
1 T melted butter
Pinch of salt
Mix well 'and let stand 20 minutes,
then drop on greased cookie sheet
and bake 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Fill three-cornered squares of pie
crust with the following:
Chop fine
H cup raisins
l cup currants
4 figs
H cup walnut!
4 T orange Juice
1 cup sugar
2 t flour
2 T water
Cook raisins, currant and figs in
double boiler 20 minutes, then add
orange Juice; mix flour and sugar
together, add to first mixture and
cook 20 minutes longer; remove from
range and stir in nuts.
Bread Pudding.
Portugal.
1 loaf of bread (1 lb.) cut In
small pieces, and cover with
1 pint of scalded milk; soak Vi
hour, mash and add
1 cup sugar
2 cups sweet wine
0 egg yolks, beaten slightly
H cup raisins
Mix well, pour Into buttered bak
ing dish and powder with flour; bake

per; place a tablespoon of the meat
rice mixture on each leaf and roll
up carefully, tucking ends In so that

loubtzy" In flour and place together
in skillet; pour melted butter over
them and cook on top of range, turn
ing occasionally so thta they will be
browned on all sides; remove from
skillet and make sauce from remain
ing butter, onions, flour, tomatoes.

county today paid to the state Its
full share of the first half 1032 prop
erty tax. A sum of H3.047.56 was re
ceived by the state treasurer.
Clackamas county today submitted
a second payment of $15,900 while
partial payments were received from
Washington county. 23,550 and Sher
