This rainy weather may be good
for some things, but the Applegate
garden and turkey raisers are wish
ing for a little sunshine. Harry Brown,
whe has one of Applegate's largest
ranches, reports a loss of 90 turkeys
during the stormy weather.
Beck's Bakery lost s truck on tower
Applegate last week by fire. When
leaving town, the driver said, the oar
seemed to have a short connection.
As he neared the Humbug road he
nottrri tt smoking and it soon burst
Into flames. Jack O'Brien, who was
driving by, got the fire extinguisher
from the schoolhouse but by the time
the fire was out only the running
gars remained. The car was removed
to Medford the next day.

Mrs. Margaret Oeer of Medford was
a Sunday guest of Earlene Taylor,

Little Applegate sewing club at Mrs.
Emma Buckley's Wednesday after
noon. They knotted out a comforter,

meeting will be at Mrs. Laura Tay
lor's, May 24.
Many Applegate and Rogue River
friends of Edward Howbrook will be
interested to hear of his return to
his former home on Applegate. the
A. fl. Klelnhammer ranch, where he
will be employed during the summer.
In the fall of 1DM. Eddie left the
Klelnhammer home suddenly one
morning, sfter Mr. and Mrs. Kleln
hammer had been as parents to him
for over eight years. He traveled
south and a few months later was
living with his mother at Needles,
Cal., where he has stayed until last
Thursday. He arrived at Ashland
Thursday and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Young brought him to the Klein'
hammer, ranch Friday evening. Eddie
has grown during his two years' stay
in the south, although southern Ore
gon looks the same to him and he
seemed very anxious to return.
Medford Christian Endeavor base
ball team was out Sunday and play
ed a game with the Beaver creek
boys. The score was 13 to 8 in favor
of Beaver creek.

Mr. and Mrs. George Wiley of Mc

Live Oak Orange met In regular
sesston Saturday. This was one of the
best meetings held for some time,
with a large attendance. Members
enjoyed a social hour after Orange,
with cake and eoffee served by the
ladles. Next meeting will be an open
one In the Community hall, at which
ths Olrl Scouts will glvs a half hour

three weeks here, left Monday for
their homes.

Carl Boswell has been appointed col
onel of cadets. Is over all the war
students and has been awarded the
fourth diamond for his shoulder,
making him the highest honored stu
dent ever graduated from Oregon
State college. He Is the only one
with more than three diamonds. He
has been made one of the instructors
for the military training camp at
Vancouver, Wash., for one month,
beginning June 93.
