San Francisco's threat to take Its
first series in many weeks with the
first place Sacramento as the victim
came to naught as the Senators fin
ished strong to take all three week
end clashes and the series, 4-3.
If a better than .500 average meant
anything, the Missions were very
nearly a first division club today.
Three victories In four week-end
meetings with Seattle gave the Reds
the series 5-2 and a 1933 record of 31
games won and 20 lost. The Missions
shut out the Indians In the opener
yesterday 2-0. The latter found their
missing batting punch in the seven

Magic in Mashie Niblick
Explained by Champion
By GENE 8AHAZEV
World Oolf Champion
(As Told to Alan Oould)
The mashie niblick shot, one of
the most Important in golf, must be
played with the ball closer to the
right foot, with the right elbow close
to the body and with a compact
swing.
The ordinary players generally
make the mlataV "t having their el
bows too far out, swinging too loosely
and standing too far away from the
ball.
The secret Ilea In the proper stance.
about a half swing and a firm wrist.
Strictly speaking, the shot la a
short awing with the left hand. Try
It with the left hand alone to get the
Idea. You do not follow all the way
through because you hit the bsli on
the down swing and take turf.
One Club for Short Ranges.
The best method of practicing the
mashie niblick ahot Is to try It from
distances of 50 to 120 yards off the
green, not Just from one epot. Prsc-
tice within thla range will help your
control, increase your confidence in
the one club.
It Is not wise to use three or four
different clubs for short-range shots
to the green. By governing the swing,
it will be found good results will be
accomplished over the range of dis
tance I have specified.
The player who has his short game,
his pitches and putting well under
control, does not need to worry about
being outdriven by hla rival.
Ranks With Hngen, Swectser.
Let me point to Paul Bunyan,
a fine example. This great young
player does not hit a long ball off
the tee, but he is a master shot-
maker with two clubs, the spoon and
the mashie niblick.
I consider him one of the best
mashie niblick nlayera I have ever
seen, and that Includes WalUr Ha
gen and Jess Sweetser, two of the
most famous specialists.

Grants Pass aports fans wrote to
Mack Llllard, promoter here, to re
serve an entire block of seats at the
Swede Anderson-Pete Belcastro mat

fana, to whom Anderson la well
known, are also clamoring for early
reservations, and indications now are
for a "full house" when the two mam
moths meet in their grudge affair.
Bad blood was stirred up between
the two at the fight here two weeks
ago between Belcastro and Ray Fria
ble, when Belcastro knocked Friable
out In the first round of their fight.
Roland Warren, Copoo engineer, of
Klamath Falls, and Wild Bill Nash,
of Chlco, will furnish the other halt
of the double main event. Warren
well known here, and Nash Is a
former wrestling Instructor at Chlco
State Teachers' college at Chlco,
Anderaon la training dally at the
