It is good for us to do this. STENi Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth (Betty) fl ten net t, who died early Fri day morning, will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Perl Funeral home. It is based upon the actual scholastic record of students during the last half of their Junior year and the first half of the senior year. "Occasionally we have had students tie for this citation, based on their marks for two semesters," said Prlncl pal Smith, "but by checking back for a semester or two farther. It has always been possible to pick the win ner, on the contrary, In .this Instance we could not discover ah lota of dif ference In the standing of these sis ters, even by scanning their records for four years. Therefore, we had no alternative other than to grant the honor to both." -The twins will collaborate in writ ing the salutatorian speech, and either draw lots to determine which shell deliver it, or possibly both will speak, making a unique dialogue effect of the delivery. Psychologists observing the de velopment of true or Identical twins have been Interested In learning from the parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Ferry, of Rogue River, that their dau ghters have been exactly alike in every way from babyhood physically, mentally and In all their talents and Interests. This has continued in every stags of their development during their IB years. If one of the twins acquired seven pounds during a cer tain month of a certain year, the other girl gained exactly the same weight In the same period. If one twin took a notion to grow three quarters of an Inch In any specified period, her sister grew up accordingly. At no stage In their lives have they varied over a pound In weight or one- quarter of an Inch In height. Similarly the Ferry Twins like the same things and do them together. They excel in art work and If a poster must be turned out In a hurry, they work together on It at the same time, and later no one can ascertain where one left off and the other started. Also they collaborate on their Jour nalistic activities, including their col umn "Ferry Tales" in the high school paper, which has brought numerous favorable comments even from out side readers regarding Its subtle hu mor of adult quality. Bcholaatlcally, the twins have kept up an even pace, . each achieving a straight "A" record throughout the four years at high school. Their teachers have expressed surprise at their ability to carry on this perfect I record, considering the time they de vote to extra-curricular activities. "Not only are their outside activities extremely diversified," said Ralph Bal- Icy, their debating and dramatic coach, "but they don't merely dab ble In these various things they ex cel in each, including forensic, dra matlcs. Journalism, art work and executive ability In many elective of fices in classes end clubs. They have an extraordinary will to work. We all appreciated this especially when tne twins won both the western Ore gon and the state championships In debate against unusually strong teams, and brought back two sliver cups to our trophy room." When your reporter Interviewed the Ferry twins and asked them how they got that way or how they accom plish all they do, one of them (dont asK me which one, I can't tell them apart, they are aa alike as two peai or two peaches, rather) sstd, "We felt responsibility for doing everything we could In order not to disgrace our brother, John, who made the best rec ord of all the students who ever at tended Stanford University. Besides, we're trying to meet the stiff entrance requirements demanded of girls who aspire to enter Stanford." When I asked the other twin for her "formula for success," she twinkled and replied: "If every girl would make advance arrangements to be born a twin, the rest la easy you always have your twin alster to help you do your work." Combining comfortable sleeping compartments with greatly reduced runnln gtlme between this city and San Francisco and Los Angeles, the Nltecoaches pUced In service Monday by Pacific Greyhound Lines are al ready being heavily patronized, ac cording to O. D. Farmer, agent for that company here. The eight cars, which comprise the first of a fleet of new type Mite- coaches were constructed on the west coast at a cost of 920,000 each. They afford sleeping accommodations for 35 passengers, and will seat 40 pas sengers during the day. Extension of this improved service to other Oreyhound routes Is contem plated In accordance with public de mand.
