THREE PAY STATE
McALESTER, Okla., May 5. P
Three men paid the state with their
lives early today for two. slaylngs and
a robbery.
In Oklahoma's first triple execu
tion since 1928, Joe L. Martin, 53;
Proctor McDonald, 23, and Albert
Ellis, 25, were put to death In the
electric chair at the state prison
here.
Martin, a blacksmith, who killed
Pete Von Nearop, a Hollander, last
July because, he said. Von Nearop
"cussed the United States," broke
down in the death chamber, talking
excitedly until the death current was
sent Into his body.
MoDonald was condemned for the
f a t a 1 shoot 1 ng of Raymond B utler ,
eight -year-old son of an Ollton drug
gist, In an attempted holdup, and
Ellis for the robbery with firearms
of the family of John Weber, Port
Worth, Texas, broker, on a highway.
REMOVAL SOUGHT

bama asked the supreme court today
to declare Invalid federal and state
laws under which sale of Alabama
prison-made goods Is prohibited. .
- Alabama requested that the 10
states of Arizona, California, Colo
rado, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Ken
tucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana,
New Jersey, New York, North Caro
lina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn
sylvania, Washington and Wisconsin
and the United States be made de
fendants. All ban or require brand
ing of prison goods, which Alabama
claims Is Infringement of Its rights
and powers as a sovereign state.

Mrs. Glfford Plnchot, wife of the
governor of Pennsylvania , today
threw her lot with "child workers"
"protesting "sweatshop" conditions In
the garment industries.
Dressed in red, she joined picket
lines of teen-aged girls and boys who
have walked out of textile plants be
cause they say they get as little as
57 cents a week.
