Friday evening at their meeting the
Property Owners organized, taking
the name "Property Owners' Associa
tion" and adopting a constitution

linea of the Property Owners Division
of the National Realty board which
is a powerful organization, Los An

The Medford organization will now
extend Its membership' to all proper-
ty owners and Its activities to those
or interest to all.
The meetings for the present will
be held on the 2nd and 4th Fridays
of each month. ,
It Is thought quite likely that the
next meeting (April 28th) will be
devoted largely to the hew home loan
bank proposition as the Realty board
gets f.rst hand information and seg
regated from all the rumors and gos
sip usually connected with such mat
ters. Officers were not elected as It was
deemed more advisable to have a
membership drive first.

The fruit of all work Is art, and
the greatest discipline Is that which
evolves from the desire of the Indi
vidual to do great things Is the
message brought to Medford last
night by Mrs. Gudren Thorne-Thom-sen,
noted educator and uthor, in
an Inspiring address on modern edu
cation, In which she outlined the
things which It should accomplish to
make the world a more pleasant
place In which to live.
Mrs. Thorne-Thomsen spoke at St.
Mark's Guild hall before an interest
ed audience of parents and other
townspeople and emphasized thruout
her address the present need for de
velopment of individuality in the
schools of America and awakening of
the desire for creative art.
She described the work of the Ojai.
Valley school In California, with
which she is associated, and several
others, of the modern vintage, as
accomplishing this aim, which neces
sitates dealing In smaller numbers
and at greater expense, practically
confining such training to the pri
vate school in America.
The necessity of training children
to cope with problems, which they
will encounter In life, rather than to
repeat after an Instructor, lessons,
which have been handed down thru
generation after generation, waa also
brought out by Mrs. Thorne-Thomsen.
She described the child's per
petual questioning as a noble char
acteristic to be cultivated for the ac
complishment of better citizens.
Americans today for the most part,
she declared, fall as individual think
ers. "We follow some one else. A
few stand out, who have opinions of
their own. They can't be bought and
continue to stand apart from the
mob. What we must do In our
schools Is develop In the child that
Godlike power to think."
The prevailing system of grading
was condemned by Mrs. Thorne
Thomsen as a destroyer' of creative
ability and Initiative, a carry over
from the middle ages.- It is still
used, she pointed out, because "we
have found no substitute to stimu
late effort." Children placed at the
proper tasks In the proper environ
ment, she stated, have as their In
centive the Joy of creation and
achievement.
The modern school, the speaker'
also pointed out, develops the desire
for cooperation, the community
spirit, which Is needed to aid the
individual In adapting himself to
world conditions. It teaches children
how to live as well as to add and
subtract.
Mrs. Thorne-Thomsen wa Intro
duced by Alfred 8. V. Carpenter and
at the close of her address, in re
sponse to demands of her audience,
exhibited many samples of creative
work by pupils lu the Ojai school.
