Dirigible Disaster Remnant
W. M. Clemenson, prominent mem'
ber of the local city council, whoj
holds down the mayoralty aeat when !
Mayor E. M. Wilson Is out of town.:
Is all smiles today. And It's not be
cause of the legalization of beer. To
the well known city dad went the
honor yesterday of landing the largest
salmon of the season at Savage Rap
ids dam. It tipped the scales at 28 4
pounds and (which la more Import
ant, aaya Mr. Clemenson) "Made Dr.
R. C. Mulholland'a face red."
It was Mr. Clemenspn's first flah.
"Still la and probably will be for sev
eral weeka to come." according to
the doctor, who gets little enjoyment
out of the review of the story.
Yesterday morning Dr. Mulholland
telephoned Clemenson, insisting that
he Joint him on a fishing trip. Clem
enson had never caught a salmon and
he hated to appear amateurish in
the eyes of the expert, Dr. Mulhol
land. famed for the number of fish
he has .captured from river and sea.
His refusals fell upon deaf ears how
ever. Dr. Mulholland wanted to show
htm Just how it's done and besides
he had a brand new fishing outfit,
built to specifications.
As the two motored to the Rogue,
Clemenson was given a aeries of hints
In the fine art or landing a salmon
He was also told the merits of the
doctor's new outfit and looked with
saddened eyes upon his own delap-
ldated pole.
The river was reaohed and Rainbow
Glgson Joined the doctor In admira
tion of the fine new rod and tackle.
As they gloated over their fishing
knowledge, Clemenson cast his line
off into the roaring Rogue. A few
seconds later he( with all his lack of
knowledge of the business of fishing)
sensed a response. A Chinook waa on
the line. Twenty minutes later wjth
but two feet of line to go, the sal
mon was landed. So the Clemensons
are having fish for dinner tonight,
while the Mulhollands, with a shiny
pole lodged in the- basement," arc
eating steak "If you please."
