way tonight with the first sme of
the season being played between Ken
Parrott's Associated OH boys and
Lamport's on the Junior high Held
starting promptly at 6:16 o'clock.
In the pitcher's box for Lamport's
will be Virgil Swanson, a star or nign
school days, known as one of the
outstanding players in the league.
Catching for Lamport Is the Job
which has been hBnaoa to uiair
Spears. Spears Is an enthusiastic
player and Is In the game every min
ute. Angus Todd, also a star of high
school days will be seen In aotlon
when he Ditches for Ken Parrot's As
sociated Oil. Todd Is known for his
sccuracy In putting the ball across
the line nine times out 01 ten.
Herm Newland. catcher for the As
sociated Oil, Is undoubtedly the out
standing receiver of the league. He
has played with various teams for the
last several seasons.
Six teams have signed to play In
the league. Lamport's, winners of
the first half of the league last sea
son, are back with hopes df repeating
their record again this season. The
Office Boys, winners of the second
half of the league last year, expect
to be a constant threat to the other
teams.

Interest has run high In the past
for kitten ball and It Is expected a
large crowd will be out to witness

ing, no less than three shooters break

Ray Coleman, Bill Bates and Elmer
Wilson. Bates and Coleman both
turned in 2 straights the first time
tip while Wilson, Sid Newton, Ed Lam
port and Sam Jennings each broke

fesslonal wrestling's latest mystery,
the disputed victory of Joe Ssvoldt
over Jim Londos. was under Investi
gation by the Illinois state athletic
commission today.
Joe Trlner, chairman of the com
mission, called nil principals ot the
"championship" match before him
with an announced determination to
make a full Investigation.
A sports writer, who predicted
victory for Savoldl last Friday night,
came out today with the charge that
the entire affair was a bulid-up for
a "championship match" betwoen
Londos and Savoldl before a world's
fair crowd In Juno or July.

PORTLAND, Ore., April 10.
Under the sharply revised plan of
pensions and benefit to war veter
ans undertaken by the Roosevelt ad
ministration, veterans' allowances in
Oregon will be reduced from $7,000,
000 to about M.700.000 annually, ac
cording to a special dispatch from
wasmngtou. D. O., to the Oregonlan.
The saving is estimated to amount
to about $3,000,000 a year or 40 per
oent of the total annual expenditure
for this state.
About 30 per cent of the M.G50.000
heretofore apent in Oregon each year
for pre -World war pensions will be
eliminated.
Four salmon were landed at Sav
age Rapids dam Sunday, only three
having been taken out there pre
viously this season. Pete Toskan,
who Friday brought in a large fish,
caught another on Sunday.
The largest catch of the day was
.made by W. M. Clemenson of the
Jackson hotel. It weighed 3B'4 lbs.
Sim's boat of Ashland brought In one
and Dick Greene landed a 22 vj
pounder.
University' of Washington's Husky crewmen made a clean sweep of all three races against California on the
Oakland estuary Saturday. The Huskies' varsity, shown lower, with Coa-ti Ulbrlcksou, took the lead at the

Medford's up-and-hustllng baseball
club won Its second start ot the sea
son when they took the long end of
& 4-8 score yesterday from the Invad
ing Eagle Point Oheesemakers before
a fair sized crowd. Proceeds of the
game went to the Prescott Memorial
fund.
The contest, which developed Into
a pitchers' battle between Hughes
and Cook, early In the proceedings
was enlivened by circuit clouts by
Qeorge Sowers of the locals and
Prltchett of the Ohecsemen. A clout
by Hughes in the ninth frame scored
Robinson with the winning run.
Qeorge Harrington performed like
a veteran behind the bat for. the
