. A benefit boxing card and dance
to be beld at tbe Armory Friday,
March 31, will be the opening gun
In the campaign to put Medford' on
the baseball map. The dance will
follow several rounds of boxing to be
provided by young battlers of local
renown. . The ring events start at
8:30 p. m.
George Sowers, who has volunteered
to act as manager of the club, has
had .long experience In semi-pro
baseball.
The first baseball game of the sea
son will be staged next Sunday when
tbe Medford Independents clash with
an independent team from Ashland.
The locals bavo been working out
dally, weather permitting, at the
Junior high school grounds at 3 p. m
and 8 p. m. All wishing to play ball
are urged to be present, and it la ex.
pec ted that the team which will meet
the Ashland contingent next Sunday
will be made up of the most promis
ing material seen In the pastseveral
daya' practice.
Sowers says there Is a wealth ol
young material in Medford which can
b developed for some good Bssenau
If properly handled. Among the
well-known athletes, most of them
graduates of Medford high school, who
Sowers has In mind are virgn owsn
son, Tulo Williams, Jaok Hughes, Ivan
Harrington, Luke Lang, Malcolm
Stlne, the Dunn brothers and Olson,
Lewis and several newcomers who
have bad experience. -
According to Sowers other stunts
. and amusements besides the benefit
dance and boxing card will be staged
to get the team started off wltb good
equipment-and a few centa over for
traveling expenses, If needed.
Backing of Medford merchants will
be solicited In getting the club
started and It Is probable that the
team will again assume the name of
"Medford Merchants."
Bveryone Is assured a host of fun
If they attend the boxing card and
dance. Music for the evening will be
furnished by Dlnty Moore's "Little
Giants."

tain Hugh Rankin led his team to a
mashing victory over Hugo Ouen-
ther's quintet laat night taking all
three games by substantial margins.
Rankin set the pace for his own
men, turning In two games well over

lit toppled 644 pins for the next best
score of the match, while the bal
ance of the Ouenther clan were un
able to get going and pranced help
