SLAYER SUSPECT
SUICIDES IN CELL
BUTTE. Mont.. Mar.. 24. (&)
Hurry Bushnell, for whom Michigan
officers had nought for 15 year, was
found dead in his ceil here yesterday,
a few hours before he was to nave
been returned to Michigan to serve
an unexpired prison term and for
questioning in the deaths of Mrs.
Mrs. Tlllle Jenkins and Valden Bord
ner in 1D18. 1
The county coroner said he had
committed suicide by poisoning.
At the same time officers revealed
that a search had been started for
Mrs. Theresa M. Severens. 70, Bush
nell's first wife, whom he divorced
here in 1023. Bushnell was also
known as Severens.
The apparent suicide of Bxishnell
climaxed a stranger than fiction ca
reer which began In 1911 with his
sentence of from five to ten years
in the Mlohlgan prison for assault
less than murder. -
He became & prison trusty and In
1918 escaped. The day after his es
cape the bodies of Bordner and Mrs.
Jenkins were found near the prison.
Both have been slam and officers
connected the escape with the crime.
A nationwide hunt was started.
Bushnell eluded all traps and came
wes;, where he homeateaded and be
came a respected citizen. After his
divorce last year he married a Butte
girl, who was unaware of his past.
It was not until last week, when A
reward offered by a detective maga
zine Tempted an acquaintance to turn
him In, that Mrs. Bu.ihnell learned of
her husband's criminal record.

tortoise, the most aged resident
of the London zoo. died of Influenza.
Sopa was a native of the Galapagos
