"The committee in charge of the
Clean-up and Palnt-up Campaign Is
making splendid progress and pres-
ent indications are that the effort
to rie extended during the week of
April 8rd will be productive of very
splendid results," stated J. O. Carie,
chairman, today.

further stated Mr. Carle.
At a meeting of the general com

perfected by those who have been
given certain responsibilities In eon-
neotion with it.
The Med ford Real Estate board has
been ssslgned the task to cover the
r--i.1rr.ttal district and late reports
are that a considerable amount of
painting can be expected by the time
the campaign opens.
At a meeting on Friday last the
Real Estate board passed the follow
ing resolution with regard to the
campaign being sponsored by the
chamber of commerce:
Wo heartily commend the cham
ber of commerce for Initiating the
movement to Improve the appearance
of Med ford and the Rogue River val

of this movement and pledge our
full support and earnest efforts to
cooperate to the end that Med ford
present a more pleasing picture to
the new comer as well as arouse
feeling of self pride In the home
folk.
Arrangements are being made for
speakere to appear before clubs and
various groups of citizens under the
direction of Col. W H, Paine. Much
encouragement In this regard has
been received from TB H. Hedrlck, su

will see that speakers appear before
the school groups.

paign It is expected that the retail mer
chants will within a few days organ-
lfte a committee to canvass the down
town business sections In order that
the various business blocks may
take on a brighter appearance with
the -help of some paint and varnish,
In this connection It may be noted
that price of paint and varnish Is
steadily going up and those who an
ticipate dolmj work on homes or
business buildings should take ad
vantage of present prices before fur
ther raises in price ire announced.
The board of directors of the cham
ber of commerce at Its meeting last
Friday, decided to set an example
and the building committee has been
Instructed to see that the chamber
of commerce building, both Inside
and outside, In put Into first class
shaps and repainted.
Vntant lote and alleys of the olty
will be given special attention and
a committee will see If something can
be done to make improvements in
this teg awl.
The organisation of the complete
campaign committee la being effect

be given a definite assignment before
the program is definitely establish

The encouragement which we have
so far received leads us to believe
that the campaign will be an entire
success," continued Mr. Carle, "and
this can only be accomplished by ev
eryone pulling together and present
ing a united front."

Entrant applications for the hog
calling contest to be staged on the
Southern Pacific tracks on 6th street
Saturday, March 35th, are not coming
In as fast as was anticipated, an
nounced Mr. O. L. MaoDonald, chair
man of the publicity committee to
day.
"I do not know If there Is a derth
of bog callers In this territory or
whether people are negligent In send
ing in the entry blanks, but we sin
cerely hope that within the next few
days we shall receive a large number
of contestants," stated Mr. M&cDo
ald. The program, as at present ar
ranged, calls for the hog calling con
test to start punctually at 11:00 a.
m., and the contestants will all shout
down the Southern Pacific tracks
towards the north where the Judges
will be stationed at various points
under the direction of Mr. Horace
Bromley. Prizes of $10, as, and $2.50
will be awarded by the retail mer
chants of the city, both in the men's
and women's divisions.
Considerable Interest is being tak
en m the contest by those who ex
pect to witness It and It Is hoped
that entrant will come in In larger
numbers before Saturday. It Is be
lieved that a large number of farm
ers will be on hand to cheer their
friends who will be participants in
the contest.
As an sdded attraction for Satur
day, March 2Sth, the Southern Ore
gon Mining sssoclatlon will stage an
other gold panning exhibition on the
Southern Pacific lot opposite the
Chamber offices. The organization
sponsored a similar event two weeks
ago which was attended by over five
hundred persons and It Is expected
that the one scheduled for Saturday
next will be witnessed by a far great
er number. The exhibition this week
will not only include a gold panning
contest for men and women but will
present for the first time In Medford
mechanical operated gold saving de
vices and will undoubtedly be of
great Interest to those who are close
ly following the mining situation here
st the present time.
Since the last contest sponsored by
the Mining association the number
of visitors calling at Its headquarters
has greatly increased and those close
to the situation are convinced that
the contest la a splendid means of
creating Interest in the opportunities
afforded in this section for mining.
The Mining sssoclatlon exhibition,
will start at 3:00 p. m. and coupled
with the hog calling contest for 11:00
m., should be the means of bring
ing to Medford a big Influx of visit
ors. ATTENTION aDDFEUUCWQ
