local fans. He specializes in use of
his long, sinewy legs, having per
fected one torturing hold which
causes an opponent, to slap to mat
in quick order.
Mobley Is also favorably known
here having tangled with Thor Jen
sen on the last card. Mobley 's chief
claim to fame is his refusal to en
gage In the dirty tactics practiced
by . most wrestlers of the present day.
Mobley Is a strong and methodical
in at man and knows all the grips In
the game. The Indian and Alabaman
shoulo provide a thrilling 'and scien

moved the first row offbeats an extra
tuob iroin tiie ring as a precauuun

who returned not long ago from a

agility of a middleweight. He will
need all his speed tonight for Del

Advance sale of tickets Indicates

also says the match will draw more
than the ordinary number of women.

DAZZY VANCE OUT
-AS PITCHING HUB
OF DODGER SQUAD
Team Will Take Feld With
out Landmark of Years
Benge, Beck and Carroll
Are Latest Additions.
By ALAN GOULD
Associated Press 8 ports Editor.
li he process of reconstruotton
under Maxlmtlllan Carey, the Brook
lyn Dodgers disposed of one of .their
novel Institutions, Babe Herman, and
subsequently advanced a notch In
the National League standing to
third place. They have now discard
ed the most famous of all their play
er landmarks. Arthur (Daazy) Vance,
and already won the claim of t.helr
leader to being 23 per cent stronger
for the 1933 pennant hunt.
Pitching Trio Added.
For the first time In ten seasons,
the Brooklyn pitching staff Is not
being built around Vance, the burley
redhead who ruled for years as the
fireball king of the National League.
Now past 40, Vance's holdout de
mands have been turned over to the
Cardinals while Manager Carey de
votes much of his attention to a
trio of pitching additions, Ray
Benge from Wie Phillies, Walter Beck,
last
who won 27 games for Memphis
year, and Owan Carroll, one-time
ace of the college miners at Hoiy ,
Cross. j
Nona of this trio will mako the
fans of Flat bush forget the groat
dazzler but they should combine to
give the club more effectiveness In
the box than It had last season.
Benge, who won 13 and lost 13
with the fourth place Phillies, post
ed as good a record as Vance and
.has the advantage of being 13 years
younger. Dar.y won 13 and lost 11
tit 1033 but he was out of commission
with a sore arm the latter part of
the campaign, just when the Dodgers
needed him most. This was one of
the big reasons why the team fin
ished nine games behind the cham
pion Cubs.
Heck Hits Hpcen,
Bock, a aoo-pouniler. has impressed
camp followers at Miami as being
ripe for a regular Job. He has speed,
a good curve, change of pace and
consistent control. He will bo 37
yeara old in April and Is well be
yond the ordinary recruit stage. He
looked good In ,hls first test against
the Athletics,
Van Mungo, the young fastball
star who won 13 games last year,
Watson (Lefty) Clark, Hoi 11b Thurs
ton and Freddy Helmach will round
out the starting staff. The daddy
of all the big league pitchers, 47
year old John Plcus Qulnn, will again
shoulder the principal relief burden.
Outside ne box, speed is not
among the Dodger assets, but Carey
has finally obtained the insurance
he needed by acquiring the veteran
Joe Judge from Washington to play
first base, If Del Bissonette falls to
recover completely from the leg In
Jury that kept him out all last sea
son. MftKoiictte'a Weak In Legs. '
BisHoneLte's batting eye appears as
keen as ever put It Is doubtful If his
under-plnntng can stand the strain
of a full season.
Of the two principal holdouts,
Third Base Joe Strlpp seems more
essential to the success of Dodger op
erations than the rotund slugger,
Hack Wilson. Strlpp Is needed to
round out an infield Including Cap
talr, Olonn Wright at short and
Tony Cucclncllo at second base., Wilt
son will have to tangle with Johnny
Rederlck for Vie job In right field,
flanking Danny Taylor In center and
Prank O'Coul, the league's batting
champion, In left.
