FEHL REFUSES 10
CO-OPERATE FOR
RFC RELIEF LOAN
(Continued from Page One)
The Oranges of the county were
reported as planning action against
the present system after Investiga
tions conducted by members.
Strangers Flock Here
It has been claimed that the unre
stricted Issuance of supples at the
commissary has attracted transient
Indigents here from Klamath Palls,
northern California and other points.
Commissioner Bluings said: "The
county court want no worthy resi
dent to go hungry, and none will;
but the county Is not going broke
feeding the unworthy and floaters
from all over the coast." Commis
sioner Nealon concurred In the view.
Both commissioners emphatically
declared that system would be In
stalled In county relief work In the
Immediate future.
SALEM, Feb. 23. (AP) County
Judge Earl H. Pehl of Jackson coun
ty held a conference with Governor
Julius L. Meier today relative to
county relief work. Judge Fohl stat
ed after the session that he discussed
with the governor the unemployment
situation at Medford and other points
in Jackson county and .urged the
appointment of conservative members
upon the county relief council.
While Fehl said he did not suggest
any additional names to the gov
ernor, he did point out to him whom
he believed the most conservative
persons on the governor's proposed
list. He said he recommended three
persons out of the dozen already sug
gested to the executive. These three
were Mrs. A. E. Reamei, Hamilton
Patton and State Senator George W.
Dunn.
County Names Three .
The Governor names four members
of the county committee under the
bill setting up the state organization,
while the county may name three,
either the members of the county
court or persons named by the court.
None of the county committees out
side of Marlon county has yet been
announced by the executive office,
although some others will be named
In the very near future.
Judge Fehl declared that since a
report came out In Medford that
Jackson county would have $25,000 a
month for unemployment relief,
there had been a "regular upset" In
the system used for relief to the
needy. Fohl said the county now
was feeding 1100 families, and when
the story was published It "upset the
system to such an extent that few
people would work In exchange for
aid." Fehl said he knew nothing of
any such amount for relief.
Says Medford Tense
The Jackson county Judge says he
did not discuss other matters with
the governor. He was asked whether
he had talked over the situation In
Medford relative to the Good Gov
ernment congress and the situation
arising out of the theft of the bal
lots.
"The situation In Jackson county
is tense," the Judge said, "but I did
not discuss any further matters with
the governor." Fehl added that the
atmosphere In Medford was growing
increasingly tense, particularly since
the theft of the ballots.

A bicycle, familiar to many people
in Medford "for 33 years," met a bit
ter end last night, according to a re
port on file at the city police sta
tion. Owned bv Verne Cannon, Janitor,
it was "parked" In the alley at the
city hall, and when Officer Cave drove
his car from the alley, "he backed
over the bicycle, breaking the frame,
both wheels, the seat, luggage car
rier and handle bars, otherwise not
damaging It." the blotter shows.
Officer Cave said last night he
would carry the case to the supreme
court before he would pay over $50
for a new bicycle for Janitor Canon,
Continuing his written report of the
"tragic happening," Officer Cave
wrote: "Verne Canon did intention
ally and maliciously place his bicycle
under the rear wheels of my automo
bile, hoping to get a new $60 bicycle."
The Janitor walked heme to supper
last night.
