"I am oomlng out to Oregon. ,
To spend my vacation time,
Where the lakes and stream abound
in fish,
Among the stately pine.
To hear the song of the "Whip-poor-
will"
At night, In hi last repose.
In the garden spot of Oregon,
Where the old Rogue Tlver flow."
With these words, a. P. Cole, owner
of the Douglas Monument work of

OFFICIAL BELIEF
(Continued nolo Page one)
Is officially promulgated In the In
augural address.
The only way you can raise money
for public works Is by a bond Issue.
You can only balance your budget b?
leaving the bond Issue to one aide.
You must sell your bonds to the
bankers. Five billions Is a lot of
money. Even the government would
have a hard time tight now trying
to mske the bankers loosen up with
five billions for such a venture.
The Hsrrlson bora will have to
dress the idea up In prettier clothe
than now adom It to fool a banker
these days.
The Democrats got Into a very bad
Jam on economy.
Skillful leading by Senator Robin
son brought them out without any -broken
skulls am: with a minimum of
publicity. '
senator Tyding of I'aryland blun
dered Into the mess With a really
drastic economy resolution. He want
d all appropriations cut. to meet ex
pected Income. That sounds fairly
good. Essentially It Is the Roosevelt
program. But It would ball up the ...
game.
The Democrat want to let Mr.
Roosevelt handle the economy busi
ness when he come in. Nothing
would be saved by going at It now.
The Republlcana were gleeful that
Tyding put tn the resolution. They
demanded a vote. Robinson called a
cauciu and got Tyding Into line.
Aside from being untimely, hi reso
lution was also Impracticable. Tyd
ing was finally convinced of that
faot and agreed to withdraw the reso
lution.
Republicans refused to let the Dem
ocrat out of their hole so easily.
They screamed for a vote. nd finally
got It in an Indirect way. .
The situation showed clearly that
Republican leadership in the senate
1 crafty and strong. The Democrats
are going to have their hand full
even when their big majority come
in Marcn .
