In a game, fast and close to the
fourth quarter, the Mcdford Tigers
defeated the Jacksonville town five
31 to 10 on the local floor Friday
night.
BUI Luman, playing his fhst full
game, was steady and fast and lead
the scoring by dropping 12 points
through the net; Brown came next
with 8. Wilton White led the visitors
by getting 7 points.
Tiring and losing their star on
account of fouls, the Jacksonville
team blew up near the end, letting
tne Mediord rive lengthen their lead
to 81 pointa.

running, aocordlng to Donald Faber,
coach of the Aahland teem.
Ashland 'a team Is oomposed almost
entirely of sophomores who have had
little real basketbaU experience. Wil
lie Durham and a substitute, Smeed,
are the only two upperclaasmen on
the entire squad, and the way the
sophomores are traveling thla year.
Faber said, It looks like a few cham
pionship teams for future years.
The Aahland squad goes to Klam
atfli Falla two weeka from last Friday
to play a non-conference game. No
more conference games will be play
ed thla semester, according to Coach
Faber, but when next semester rolls
around, and the boys have bad the
practice and experience so necessary
and valuable to them, Ashland will

OPERA PINAFORE
WILL BE STAGED
One of the Interesting features to
be presented In Medford high aohool
thla year, la the production of a
oomlo opera by the Glee oluba and
the members of the band.
The operetta, "H. M. 8. Pinafore,"
wUl be held In the auditorium of the
high school, February 33 and 34, un
der the supervision of Mlas Marrlet
Baldwin and Wilson Walt.
The presentation la a satire on the
English navy by Gilbert and Sulli
van who gained fame by their many
satires on English habits and customs
and on their policy of class dis
tinction. The chief character of the play is
the First Lord of Admiralty, Rt. Hon.
Sir Joseph Porter, who gained such
a high rank In the navy because of
his ability to polish brass work In
the office In vhl-h h- nMi
celved employment.

Lincoln grade school defeated the
Roosevelt school 24-9, and jacuson
defeated Washington 32-16 In the
opening rounds of the grade school
basketball conference ployed Friday,
according to Ray Henderson, who Is
In charge of grade school atmeucs.
Washington school won the pen-
nant last year, and despite the defeat
of Friday la still 1 nthe running ror
another pennant. The pennant Is
given on a percentage basis, and one
defeat, more or less, doesn't matter
so much, Henderson said.
High point players of the first
round were Campbell, Reynolds nd
Malkemus, of Jackson; Bennett, of
Washington; New land, of Lincoln and
Montelth, of Roosevelt.
Lincoln's squad, all of whom saw
aotlon Friday, consisted of Newland,
Shaw, Clark, Ludwlg and Perry, with
Church. Newton and McMannus,
eubs. Roosevelt's squad was Montelth,
Todd, Nelson, Thorbus and Hoots, on
the starting lineup, and Kressee,
Stanuley, Dever and Bogleln, subs.
Jackson'a atarting lineup was
Campbell, Moore, Eads, Scrlpter and
Reynolds, with Rice, Foster, Jennings,
Malkemus, worden, Barber and Dooms
as subs, and Washington's starting
lineup was Dougherty, Stead, Ben
nett, Mtnear and Rhodes, with Finch,
Crosby, Henselman, Prentice and
Younger, as subs.

mains as one of southern Oregon's
bst Independent outfits by virtue of
Its viotory over the Grants pass all-
star team in Grants Pass Friday
night. The Texaoos won 30-25, after
trailing the Cavemen until the final
quarter, when Swanson, Newland and
Deltrlch ran wild to gather In the
10 extra points.
Sam Col ton, manager of the Tex-
acoe. now claims his team la far bet
ter than the- Jacksonville quintet
which lost Friday to the Medford
Tigers, and wants a game soon. The
Grants Pass all-stare, Colton said,
want a return game here this week.
The Texaco lineup was Lang, New-
land, Swanson, Deltrlch, and Wil
liams, with Green, Clancy and An
derson subbing throughout the game.
Grants Pass was represented by deal,
Bennett, McCarthy, Johnson. Smith,
Prultt and Bennett. Deal, of Grants
Pass, refereed.
SKI TOURNAMENT
The first big ski Jumping tourna
ment to be put on by the Mount
Shasta Snowmen this winter is
scheduled to take place at Snowman
hill today. This Is to be an exhibi
tion tournament and will feature
some of the leading ski Jumpers In
America Including world's champion
professional, Alf En gen, Lars Haugen,
who was seven times U. 8. champion,
Sigurd Ulland, Hvalvon Hvalsted, Ted
Rex and others. Reports from Mount
Shasta Indicate that the hill Is In
fine condition and some thrilling
Jumps may be expected. Snowman
Hill Is located Just a few miles from
Mount Shasta and Is reached by the
Pacific highway and the Mount Las
sen highway both of which are re
ported to be In excellent shape.
