In Oregon, one of tha benetlta of
the atorm appeared to be the mov
ing of the grounded freighter, Sea
Thrush, from Its sandy berth at the
mouth of the Columbia. She waa
being moved towards tha channel,
and aalvaga company officials said
aha possibly could be aaved, after
tugs .had given up tha attempt to
free her.
At Astoria, store wlndowa on ex
posed corners were broken by tha
faje, and numeroua power and tele
phone lines were toppled. ,
Ship waited off the mouth of the
Columbia because pilots were unable
to get outside to board them.

bert F. Holland, accused of annoy
ing Bebe Daniels, film star, was
found Insane today in a court hear
ing and committed to the state hos
pital at Patten. Holland demanded a
Jury trial, however, and It was granted.
Miss Daniels said Holland had both
ered her for two or three years, writ
ing ner more than 100 letters.

aea level at 80 feet a minute. Esti
mates ar that the plane will climb
3,650 feet in five minute and 7.600
feet In ten minute.

performance expected with the pltine's
full load of 10 passengers, two ptlota
and 400 pounds of mall.

making possible the new low landing

SALEM, Deo. 38. (AP) Sickness
from Influenza has incressed stead
ily here with sbsent list at the
schools setting new high records.
Without the timely Christmas vaca
tion, schools would be forced to
close here.
Dr. Vernon A. Douglas, county
health officer, predicted that the In
fluenza epldemlo would reach Its
peak here within a few day. From
the high school snd two junior high
schools yesterday, 460 students were
absent and in the grades It was
reported that th situation was
growing worse.
