Gleemen Please
Ashland Folk and
Local Followers
Singing their way Into the hearts
of all. who heard them. Just as they
thrilled a Medford audience a short
time sgo with their spirited presen
tation of their first formal concert,
members of the Medford Gleemen
added a very fine contribution to
the opening program of the Llthla
theater In Ashland Friday night.
Directed by James Stevens, who
tunes his very soul to the music,
bringing from the singers the best
they have to give, and thanking
them with his ever present smile,
the singers won cheer after cheer
from the Ashland audienoe, which
was dotted with Medford faces. Many
of those who heard the Gleemen here
motored to the neighboring city for
the second appearance of the chorus.
Sebastian Apollo, organist, pianist
snd composer, accompanied the
Gleemen at the piano as at the
concert here, to which he added a
number of solos, which were received
with hearty applu "The Bella or
St. Mary's.'1 one of the most en
thusiastically received numbers here
and at Ashland, was sung with the
piano Innovation of chimes, arranged
by Mr. Apollo. And the feature
number by Fletcher Pish proved as
popular In Ashland as here, winning
a rood laugh from the Llthla city.
Following reports of the success of
the Ashland appearance, Medford
music lovers were again yesterday
clamoring for another local concert
and much was said In various circles
of Christmas carols. The opinion
seems to be general in music groups
that Christmas carols, sung by the :
Gleemen with James Stevens direct
ing and arousing In all that love of
music, which Is contagious when he
Is on the stage, would do a very
great deal toward abolishing the gray
days and reviving a real old fash
ioned Christmas spirit.
