l.ady Lions Gain Many
Dolls for Needy Children
A Jolly party was held yesterday
by the Lady Lions &t the home of
Mrs. L. Pennington on the Jackson
ville road. The beautiful Christmas
tree, decorated for the occasion, was
crowded with dolls before all guests
had arrived, each being requested to
add one to the supply to be dis
tributed to needy children sometime
nert week by the Lady Lions, who
will act &s Santa's helpers.
Covered dish luncheon was fol
lowed by bridge and sewing for the
doll family. High score at cards as
held by Mrs. J. Verne Shangle. A
number of, dolls were dressed for
their Ohrlstm&s debut before the
close of the afternoon.
Mrs. D. O. Tyree and Mrs. Wm.
Hollow? assisted the hostess In en
tertaining and Mrs. Thos. Jud?e of
the Med ford Greenhouse sent flowers
for the tables and lovely dressed
doll for the Christmas tree project.

To Book Club Tuesday
Mrs. R. W. Sleeter was hostess Tues
day evening to members of her bridge
club. Following dinner, the usual
number of crfrd frames were enjoyed
Altar Society plans
Post-Christmas Benefit
Plans for a benefit card party to
be held December 38 were made at
the meeting of St. Ann's Altar society
Tuesday afternoon. An Invitation -o
the event will be extended the pub
llo and a large attendance Is antici
pated. At the Tuesday meeting members
responded to roll-call with Christmas
thoughts and cheery suggestions and
work for the Red Cross was com
pleted. Mrs. A. V. Q raves, named
chairman of the Altar society's par
tldpatlon in the sale of Christmas
seals, appointed the following com
mittee to assist her at the post off Ice
and sub-station Monday, December
19: Mra. Stella. Anderson, Mrs. Rose
Schelffelln. Mrs. W. H. Smith and
Miss Anne Kelihor. These workers
will be stationed at the two loca
tions that day to aid the sale of the
little stamps, which bring health and
happiness to children throughout the
nation.
Mnta Lovers to Hear
Gteemen Again
Medford music lovers welcome the
news that the Gleemen will appear
in another program this coming Fri
day night, the first out-of-town ap
pearance of the local organization.
The chorus wUI sing at the reopen
ing of the Ashland theater, under
the management of Walter Leverette
of this city, and many folk are plan
ning to escort the Gleemen to the
neighboring town.
The recent formal concert of the
Gleemen was so enthusiastically re
ceived that plans for future programs
are rapidly developing under the able
direction of James Stevens, director
and soloist, with Sebastian Apollo,
accompanist.

sell's Bible class of the First Chris
tian church was held at Mrs. W. W
Hart ley's of the West Side district.
December 9. Meeting opened with
devotlonals led by Mrs. Ruby Powell.
Christmas carols were sung by Mrs.
Lois Young and class. A beautiful
Christmas tree adorned the living
room, from which each member re
cetved a gift. Refreshments were
served by the committee In charge.
and to add a holiday air to the occa
sion, popcorn balls were In evidence.

Alpha Deltas Plan
Annual Christmas Party
Alph& Delta Sunday school class
members, their friends and husbands,
will have a Christmas party In the
recreational hall of the First Chris
tian church. Friday evening at 7:30
o'clock, and all attending are re
quested to wear old clothes or pay
a fine.
Each person is requested to bring
a small gift, costing not more than
ten cents, for exchange.

With Chrl'tmns Carols
Boys and girls of the fourth, fifth,
sixth and seventh grades in the Med
ford schools, will present a program
of Christmas carols this evening at
7:15 o'clock In the auditorium of the
Senior high school, to which the pub
lic Is being invited.
Miss Harriet Baldwin, music di
rector for the city schools, Is In
charge of the arrangements.
Jackson p.-T. A. to Meet
At School Friday
An interesting meeting of the Jack
son Parent-Teacher association Is to
be held at the school Friday, Decem
ber 16, it was announced today. The
business of the past month will be
discussed and a program presented
by Miss Reld's room- The leader of
1 the chHd study group will give a re
sums of the talks given by the state
leader. Mrs. Prentice. A large attend
ance Is desired.

To Meet Friday
The regular meeting of the Wash
ington Parent-Teacher association
will be held tomorrow afternoon and
an interesting play has been prepared
for the program by Mrs. Oscar Hoov
er. The title is "What, No Christ
mas?" A report on progress of the school
kitchen, where many children are be
ing fed hot lunches each day will
be made. The d'snes and equipment,
purchased with funds reallred from
the marionette show recently spon
sored here, have arrived, and the
children are enjoying hot lunches
each day. For many of them, ac
cording to the report, the hot lunch
received at school constitutes the
only hot meal of the day. and the
children are given all they can eat
at the school kitchen In order to help
them through the week, which holds
little else for them m the way of
food and warmth.
Reames Chapter Elects
Officers for New Year
There was a splendid attendance
last evening at the meeting of Reames
chapter, O. E. S., and officers elected
for the coming year. Those who will
head the chapter are: Mrs. E. u.
Wilson, worthy matron: O. I. Oates.
worthy patron; Mrs. Chas. Gilbert,
associate matron; Dr. L. L. Sanders.
asoclate patron; Mrs. Harry Nord
wick, conductress; Mrs. Ernest Smith,
associate conductress: Mrs. George
Alden. secretary, and Mrs. John But
ler, treasurer.
The dining room, where refresh
ments were served, was beautifully
decorated in red and white carna
tions and beautiful flowers were also
plentiful in the chapter room. A cor
sage was presented each officer of the
evening by Mrs. Marie Sc hoe pen. who
also presented a lovely basket of
chrysanthemums to the worthy mat
ron.
Mrs. Cornelia Barnes, worthy mat
ron, presided during the evening and
a very liberal donation of Jams and
Jellies for the Jackson county com
missary was made. The next meet
ing of the chapter wlll be held De
cember 36. A class of six will be
Initiated and refreshments will be
served by the Past Matrons.
Entertaining last evening was In
charge of the December committee,
headed by Mrs. W. J. Looker.

Christmas In South
Mrs. Carl Swlgart and daughters.
Misses Ellaabeth and Jean, will leave
Md ford next week for Palo Alto.
Cal., to spend the Christmas holt
days with Mr. Swlgart and Mr. and
Mrs. Elliott Ayres, t the Ayres home
In the southern city. Mr. Swlgart
will Join his family in San Fran
cisco, and Miss Elisabeth Swlgart Is
expected here soon from Portland to
make the trip with her mother and
sister Jean, who la a student at the
Southern Oregon Normal school.
Book Club to Have j
Christmas Party
Members of the Book olub will hold
their annual Christmas party at the
home of Mrs- Carl Swlgart Friday.
Luncheon will be served In a holiday
setting, enhanced by holly and light
ed candles, and covers will be ar
ranged for 10 at the attractive table.
A gaily dressed Christmas tree will
add Interest to the ewnt and lunch
eon will be followed by exchange uf
gifts and the usual Christmas jolli
fication program.

Dancing Party Planned
By Junior High School
Midst the entertainments accom
panying the ushering in of the Christ
mas holidays. Is the dancing party to
be given at the Medford Junior high
school tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock,
for which Invitations have been law
sued.
Upperclass students m the school
are entertaining prior to the school
vacation. With semester ending
shortly after the holidays, a num
ber will transfer to the Senior high
school.

Ep worth League to
Hold Dress Rehearsal.
The Epworth league choir of the
First Methodist Episcopal church will
mail for dress rehearsal Saturday
evening at 7 o'clock and the dictator
of the cantata asks that all partici
pants appear at that time In com
plete costume. Anyone needing help
with a, costume Is asked to call at
the pastor's study between 2 and 4
o'clock Saturday afternoon.
