square Gospel Lighthouse reported
this morning that between SO and
70 boxes of Winter Nells pears are
on hand at the Lighthouse, and will
be given away this afternoon and
Saturday to needy people calling for
them.
Some of the fruit la already ripe,

ness In the butUr trade appears
genuine. The previous sharp advance
which appeared first at Portland and
was then transferred to other cosst
points, appears out of line with con
ditions. Those who were chief boost
era of the price when they secured
long line of butter at the lower prices,
appear more than anxious to tsxe
profits that are not really In eight.
The price here remains mostly un
changed, but It Is noted that the
movement Into consuming channels
has been somewhat curtailed. A sur
vey of the situation shows a greater
sale of oleomargarine than for some
time past.
Receipts of eastern butter continue
along the coast, chiefly at California
and Washington points.
Market for eggs shows continued
weakness in the local field as well
as In the country generally. Prices
are easier at most points with In
creasing lay and offerings. Price
shading more or less general.
With pressure continued against
springers, the market for chickens in
general Is inclined to rule more or
less steady with this exception. Ducks
and geese are slow. Hogs slower.
Prices are being shaded somewhat
on the potato market here with too
many unsold rollers on the tracks.
These are generally selling So to 10c
cents! below the primary basis.

PORTLAND, Dec. 3. (AP) Turkey
growers are going to offer all the
birds for the holiday trade the mar
ket can absorb. According to informa
tion disclosed by the latest survey
of the Industry at primary points of
the Pacific northwest. There Is not
likely to be any holding back of sup
plies on account of the price.
Everyone in the trade expects a low
price and will be very pleasantly sur
prised otherwise. Buyers are not mak
ing firm offers, practically all of them
being inclined to pay an advance.

keys for Christmas, but the exact vol
ume will depend upon the price.

Under the state law, a public hear
ing on the budget must be called
within 20 days alter the first publi
cation of the budget. If called at the
earliest possible date, It will be close
to December 23. It 1 desired to have
the public hearing before Christmas,
