TAX COMMITTEE
IS PRAISE OF
Th board of directors of the Med
for Chamber of Commerce, at Its reg
ular weekly meeting held at the Ho
tel Jackaon today noon, received and
approved report from a number of
chamber committees, and especially
prataed the taxation committee, un
der the direction of W. H. Gore, for
lta work in promoting reductions in
county taxes.
The tax committee's report, pre
sented to the board today, stated
that the county budget committee
had been most considerate of tht
recommendations made by the cham
ber's committee, and that It is the
belief of the committee that the
public generally will approve of the
final action taken on removing from
the 1933 proposed budget a major
part of the proposed levy to cover
tax delinquency.
In Its presentation to the county
court and the budget committee, tfr.
Gore's group emphasised particularly
the need for a reduced budget during
the coming year, and urged that all
levies for anticipated delinquency be
removed. In the final opinion of the
budget committee, however, this was
not deemed practical, although a
major part of this proposed levy was
eliminated.
A discussion of action to be taken
by the Chamber of Commerce in aid
ing in the establishment of markets
for food products of the valley, othnr
than fruits, was referred to the agri
cultural committee for, Immediate at
tention. It was proposed at today's
session that this project be given a
major part of the chamber's attention
during the coming months, as it was
contended by a number of members
of the board that it la one of the
most feasible plans for bringing about
the necessary economio readjustment
here.
O. L. lite Donald, chairman of the
chamber's publicity committee, re
ported today that progress la being
made in the preparation for the pro
posed Diamond Jubilee celebration In
1934. and stated that invitation will
be sent out within the week. Tom
Cunning, field representative of the
Shasta Wonderland association, spoke
to the directors on the object and
purposes of his organisation, and re
ceived the endorsement and approval
of the Chamber of Commerce for the
work of the tourist promotion group.
Routine business occupied the re
mainder of the session.
