Of fttate-Wlde Scope
A committee will shortly be ap
pointed to handle the celebration
Itself, and altho definite plans have
not yet been completed regarding
this, it has been proposed however to
rent the Armory during the week and
have as many Oregon counties as
possible put in displays showing the
advancement which has been made
In their particular localities over a
75-year period. It la also proposed
that the center of the Armory shall
be given over to a huge Home pro
ducts exhibit. In this regard, every
manufacturer In the state will be
asked to cooperate.
A program is also being arranged
for the Retail Merchants of the city,
whereby store windows will exhibit
relics of 70 years ago, and Home pro
ducts displays will be set up In the
empty stores of the city.
The convention committee of the
Medford Chamber of Commerce has
already started an active campaign to
secure conventions for Medford for
the time of the celebration.
Bolger Endorses '
William S. Bolger, president of the
Chamber of Commerce, when Inter
viewed yesterday, stated he believed
that from a standpoint of publicity,
An Interrupted Seach

the plan of the committee Is one ot
the most comprehensive which has
come to his notice for many years.
He further remarked, I believe the
celebration Is one which should re
ceive the whole-hearted cooperation
of everyone In Jackson county, es
pecially, and we will certainly need
this cooperation In order to make the
affair a 100 per cent success. It
seems to me that this will be a gold
en opportunity for hotels, retail
stores, and business houses, general
ly, to get behind a plar- which has as
Its primary objective the bringing of
a large number of visitors to our city.
I believe we can capitalize on the
face that we are the (tateway to Cra
ter Lake, and if the publicity, com
mittee carries out the scheme In Its
entirety, I feel satisfied that Med
ford will benefit tremendously as a
result.
Committees At Work
Mr. Bolger will very soon appoint
a number of committees to handle
the vast amount of work necessary
for such an enterprise.
The board of directors of the Cham
ber of Commerce unanimously en
dorsed the Idea, which i' was pointed
out !n a recent meeting, should bring
about the desirable publicity results.
Members of the chambers' publi
city committee, under whose direc
tion the publicity plans have been
prepared are: 0. L. MacDonald, chair
man, W. A. Gates, director, H. L.

also be devoted for the alleviation
of unemployment.
The Indigent fund will be practi

widows pension fund was cut $2,

at the poor farm cut about $500.
This amount was applied to the
fund for indigents not in the poor

at $60,000, the same as last year.
The county fair fund was also
reduced by eliminating all Items

salary of the caretaker.
Heavy slashes were also made In
supplies for all offices. No fund was
allowed for elections, which this
year amounted to $8000. 'if there
are any elections the coming year,
to save the taxpayers money, It will
be a task to find money for the
