Of Brother's Biography Carrying with him a treasured first copy of his famous brother's biogra phy, George Putnam, editor of the Salem Capitol Journal, atopped over In Medford yesterday to visit local friends. The book, describing the life and worka of the late Arttiur Putnam, whose genius ss a sculptor Is fast gaining recognition among critics, was autographed by the author, Julie Helen Heyneman, herself a famous esculptor, who wrote on the fly leaf: "For George Putnam, to whom the subject of this book owed so much." Among the collection of photo graphs bearing upon the Intimate life of Arthur Putnam is one of George and Arthur taken together as small boys. In the Legion of Honor museum of San Francisco where a large number of his greatest works are exhibited, is a collection of the famous Rodin pieces, to which Arthur Putnam's are often favorably compared. Striking in this regard Is Putnam's "The Caveman." depleting the pon deroua atuptflcatlon of a hairy pre historic subject over his discovery of fire. This has recently been compared to Rodin's "The Thinker," not to the disadvantage of Putnam. With somewhat over 600 beautiful works completed within 10 years of his early life, Arthur Putnam was cruelly stricken with paralysis In 1911 from which he never fully recovered until his deatn In 1020. Besides the San Francisco collec tion, presented to thst museum by Mrs. Adolph Spreckels, another large group of his works are exhibited in the Fine Arts museum of Baa Diego. I5lfffli?flJ A suitable reward will be paid for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the party or parties' who participated in the robbery of The Toggery , last Friday night or. early Saturday morning. WM. F. ISAACS etler As smokers become more experienced, they demand milder cigarettes. Chesterfields are tnilder. Their mild ness is just as much a feature as the beauty of their package. The tobaccos are mild to begin with. Fatient ageing and curing make them milder still. And Chesterfields contain just the right amount of Turkish .not too much carefully blended and cross-blended with ripe, sweet Domestic tobaccos. Chesterfields are milder. They taste better. That's The publication of the biography was made possible by a bequest for that purpose by the late Senator James D. Pbelan of San Francisco, who learned of Arthur Putnam's death during his own last days. Arthur Putnam will ba remembered by many of Medford'a old timers, who knew him when he visited his family here during bis student and artist days. -f- Bible Class Plans Thanksgiving Party The young people's Bible class of the First Christian church, taught oy Mrs. E.
