"Unjust reduction in compensation
to disabled World war veterans, un
der guise of government economy will
draw determined opposition from the
women of the American bog Ion Aux
iliary," declared Mrs. K. D. Ross,
president of the Medford unit of the
Auxiliary, in a statement made pub
lic today. The Auxiliary will pive
active support to the stand of the
American Legion against proposed
economies aimed solely at the dis
abled veterans.
The American Legion Auxiliary is
Wholeheartedly in favor of economy
In government, state and local as
well as federal. We believe there are
many places where economies can be
effected, but we are opposed to any
program of economy which singles
out the disabled men, the widows
and the 'fatherless children as the
only ones to suffer. They have al
ready had more than their share of
suffering, and we believe that the
necessary economies can be made
without placing the whole burden
on those least able to bear It.
The auxiliary Is now enrolling Its
membership for 1933 and Is confident
that nundrcds of thousands of wives,
mothers, sisters and daughters of
veterans will enroll to aid the Legion
in the fight aganlst injustice to dis
abled veterans. Every woman who
Joins the auxiliary now gives the
organization Just that much more
power in its endeavors for the wel
fare of the disabled men and their
families. Through the auxiliary is
the only way for women w.ho believe,
that the veterans should not bear
the whole burden of government
economy to make their voices heard
and their efforts felt.
"The Medford unit Is making rapid
progress in enrolling Its membership
for 1933," said Mrs. Belva Aiken,
membership chairman. Renewals of
old members and enrollment of wo
men not in the organisation last year
Indicate Increased membership for
coming year.
