Schlssler did not subject his men to
so much as a light work-out. They
didn't even have to study, classes
being out for the day because of the
annual homecoming.
Schlssler said, he was still hoping
the occasional flashes of sunshine
through a predomination of clouds
presaged a surcease of rain and a fast,
dry field for the game. He was en
couraged by E. F. Torgerson, In charge
of the campus weather station, who
said a rising barometer Indicated a
letup of the rainstorm that has
flooded the field this week.

Accomplishments
The District Attorney's office has been conducted more economi
cally than It has been for any year since 1924, although many large
cases have been handled. Including two murder trlsls!
There will be a 15 percent reduction in the budget for this office
for 1933. under what It was for 1933 added savings for taxpayers!
During the preceding administration of the office of District Attor
ney the profit to the county from the Prohibition fund was approxi
mately S900.00. During Mr. Coddlng's term of office, the profit
will be In excess of $10.0001
It should be thoroly understood that not one cent of the taxpayers
money goes Into the Prohibition fund, as It Is all derived from fines
paid on conviction of Prohibitions w Viol store.
The District Attorney's office expense for the first three years of
his term was (2163.37 less than the Budget allowance , , .
Substantial savings this year are also being effected.
In former years, thousands of dollars of County money was lost
In a Bank failure. Two Bank failures In Jackson county during Mr.
Coddlng's term as District Attorney, Involving 1 135,000.00 of County
funds, with absolutely no loss to the County.
All County legal business has been handled by the regular District
Attorney's office force during his administration. No large Attorney's
fees paid for Special Counsel as In former years.
Mr. Codding has voluntarily accepted a salary reduction In accord
ance with the recommendations made by Governor Meier's committee.
Mr. Codding Is at the present time, Vice-President of the District
Attorney's Association of Oregon.
Approximately 3000 criminal cases have been handled thru the
District Attorney's office during his Administration with a high
percentage of convictions. In addition to this the Office has handled
all of the Civil business of the County snd given 500 Opinions to
County Officers.
Considering (he number of cases handled, the District Attorney's
Office of Jacxson County has been operated for less than any other
County In Oregon
In all criminal cases, Mr. Codding has attempted to so prepare
and assemble the evidence that pleas of guilty have been had In a
large percentage of the cases thereby saving the County the expense
of Grand Jury Investigations and expense of trials.

might explain it this way. . .
"Let'i m you're painting clonds.
Yoa've got your primary color here
on the palette. But you haven't the
cloud until yoa blend certain color
Into the special tone yon want.
This is very much what happens
In making a good cigarette. And I
gather that what Chesterfield means
by Cross-Blending Is what an artist
does with colors. Their Domes tie
and Turkish tobaccos many varie
ties of each are the primary colors.
They blend and crou-blend these
tobaccos until they get the special
tone they want in other words, the
Chesterfield flavor. .
"And just as each color you use
sets on the others to change and
enrich them, so each Chesterfield to
bacco partakes of the line qualities
of every other..
"Yon Veld' different kinds to get
better kind. That's Cross-Blend-log!"
