permits have been Issued this month,

October, according to the city rec

Journalist of International reputation,

Columbia to be with his son Gordon,

time. He wss In Medford when news
of the accident arrived and had ar
ranged for a lecture series here, hav
ing presented one under auspices of

WIN STRAW VOTE
President Hoover, C. E. Gates, Sher
iff Ralph Jennings and George Cod
ding, district attornsy, were popular
nominees In the straw vote taken
today noon at the luncheon of the
Rogue River Trafflo association, held
at the Hotel Jackson.
Ten voters participated and nine
votes were given Hoover with one
going to Roosevelt. Gates, as nomi
nee for county Judge, received 10
votes, the other candidates for the
office polling none. The asms situa
tion was repeated In the race for
sheriff, 10 votes going to Sheriff Jen
nings, the write-in candidate. His op
ponents get none. George Codding.
Incumbent, also received all the rotes
given to the district attorneyship.
Three bills were included on tne
ballot and all voters favored both
the Rogue river closing and ths truck
and bus bill. The vote was divided
on the Zorn-MacpheTson measure with
four affirmative votes and five nega
tive. Report en thla year's fruit crop was
msde at the luncheon, showing a total
for pears snd apples of 3140 carloads
shipped and In storage. The report
Included sll peers and apples In the
district from Grants Psas to Ash
land with the exception of the slight
movement by truck, which has not
been checked.

to keep President Herbert Hoover on

ceived by Andrew Mellon, Ogden

er showed where Raskob, the demo
cratic leader, received refunds
amounting to $6,234,846, and la fi
nancing the democratic campaign
with $612,0000. Also Franklin D.
Roosevelt received In refunds $46,000
and Is putting up several thousand
dollars, also the same 1b true of John
W. Davis and several other demo
cratic leaders.
