their Jaunts Into opposing territory.
Last week the eastern Oregon team

and Albert Bradford sparkled a
dashing offensive threat. McLean
ha been a first string performer all

Hobaon did a little experimenting
against the Areata defense by throw

McLean wae shifted over from wing

the flashy Indian established himself
firmly by turning in a brilliant run

Aug share of glory with an effective
paaslng attack.
During the course of the afternoon
McLean cut loose with an even doc
en heaves of which eight were com

put him In Una with the most ser

make the Son certain of having
three men behind the line who can
take turns forcing the aerial attacks.
Bradford planted cleat consistent
ly In Humboldt territory w,hen his
turn came to carry the ball, Hla
rise from Just another former high
school player to a shining light ha

The whole squad coma through the
Humboldt workout In fine ahape and
with another week hard work on
offenae Hobson thlnka hi men will
be near true mid-season form. For
the first time this year the Bon a
a smooth working offensive machine
came Into being. The plays started
ellcklng In the last half of the Ar
eata affair and from that point It
wa a track meet for the Bon al
though they had been held ecoreleta
In the first half.
Hobson Is now almost satisfied
with hi crew's defensive ability. Led
by "Swede" Anderson the forward
wall haa been Impregnable to the

FOOTBALL CHANGES
AID TO COLLEGES
T
(Associated Frew Sports Writer.)
NEW YORK, Oct. 38. So far
aa the college are concerned, the
new football code apparently ha ac
complished It primary purpose of
making the game safer for the play
srs, but high (chool and aandlot
football seems Just about aa hazard
ous a before.
Of the 11 fatallttea eo far report
ed attributable directly or Indirectly
to football, only one ha occurred In
college rank where the new rule are
strictly effective. The other all came
In high school or sandlot game
where proper supervision and train
ing Is much more difficult and, In
the case of tandlot contesta at least,
virtually Impossible.
The DO fatalities charged to foot
ball lut year led to a aeries of drss
tlc changes In the rules during the
winter, eliminating the "flying
wedge" on klckoffs, flying blocks and
tackle, "rabbit punchea" on the
necks of linemen and an overhauling
of the epeclflcatlona for equipment
to make It eater.
With the season now at the halt-
way mark, these rules seem to have
eliminated many of the hazarda of
the game It la played In the col
lege under lrlot supervision.
The only fatality In college ranks
waa that of High Martin Williams.
18, a freshman at Loyola of the
south, who died of Internal Injuries
