"Here's what Coach beer has to
say about Saturday's game: 'The
boys should be Just about In their
prime by Saturday. I don't want to
make any predictions, but we look
for a hard game and Medford will
know they have played some football
Wihen we get through. The boys are
in good spirits and that'a a great
thing for a winning team to possess
"And here's what some of the play
ers think about It.
"Fredericks, the terrible guard on
the local squad, says: 'Believe me,
It looks bad for the Tigers.'
"McGulre, the elusive ball carrlor:
I've waited three years for this game
and now It's not going to slip
through my fingers. We're going to
win.'

"Oook, the boy with t&e punting
foot: 'We're going out to win
"Neely, what-a-man: The Tlgers'll
have to eat a lot of raw meat to
top us.'
"Palmer, watch out for him: We
sure hate to make It tough for Mr.
Burgher.'
"Hamilton, the big trlple-threater
(f): 'Nertsl We'll win; that's all.
' MWyatt, the boy with the brains:
'We're going to give them everything
we've got.' r
"With a spirit like that, the boys
ought to have plenty of fight and a
good delegation to the southern xne
. tropolls will certainly spur them on
' to a glorious win."

SENTIMENT GROWS
TO
CHICAGO, Oct. 30. (AP) -Sentiment
to keep Amos Aloneo Stagg as
head football coach at University of
Chicago grew today.
Although Thomas Nelson Metcalf,
named as Stagg's successor as direc
tor of athletics effective June 30,
refused to discuss the coaching sit
uation, several close friends of the
veteran coach believed he would con
tinue to direct Chicago's football
forces.
One of them, James Weber Unn,
professor of English at Chicago, said
he was certain Stagg would be re
appointed.
Stagg himself refuses to discuss
the possibilities of his retention ex
cept to remark:
'It's a little early for them (mean
ing the freshmen who have started
a campaign to keep him as coach) to
start worrying."

SIS LOCAL FANS
"Fight fans always do a lot of
talking." said Mack Llllard, the lo
oal boxing promoter, "but It's seldom
you see so many anxious to back up
tneir judgment with hard cash, like
the supporters of Jack Olbbs and
Jack McCarthy, the main eventers on
t,he next armory fight card Wednes
day. "Of all the fights I would hesitate
to bet on this one," said the genial
promoter, "why, wouldn't be surpris
ed to see this fight end with a punch
any time, and who will be the un
lucky fighter Is a problem even the
wise boys would stall on."
Interest In the coming scrap Is
picking up momentum as the day of
the fight draws nearer; fans have
been clamoring for Vila fight tor
some months and will probably see
a real slugging match when the two

TROY COACH SEES
LOS ANGELES, Cal., Oct. 30. (AP)
Coach Howard Jones scratched his
head today and wondered If Jbla Tro
jans of Southern California? are as
much weaker than the national
championship aggregation of a year
ago as comparative scores this season
show, or whether It is a simple mat
ter of their football opponents being
stronger,
Troy's head man thinks his ques
tion probably will be answered Sat
urday when his team clashes with
Stanford at Palo Alto In the game
which also may decide the Pacific
Coast conference championship.
"We've looked pretty good defen
sively," Jones admitted, "but the
boys certainly haven't clicked offen
sively. I wouldn't say they have
failed to do the best they knew how,
but whether this is going to be good
enough against Warner's team Satur
day Is the problem I want answered.
"Stanford seems to have fewer plays
than In recent years but far better
execution. Of course, t,he Indiana
may have more plays than I know
about. Warner also has more and
better reserve material to call upon,
regardless of what he and some other
coaches I know say about all the ma
terial being In my possession.
"I understand Pop's backfteld has
failed to wait a sufficient length of
time after the shift on a number of
occasions this fall, so I may have all
the officials hold stop watches on

his team. Being an opponent of the
:llegal shift, I know he will be willing.
"It reallv looks as though Stan- ;
ford should win, but I have an Idea ,
It will be quite a ball game."
All of which was something of a
long speech for one so taciturn as
Troy's head men.
Southern California has not been
soured upon In four games, although
the team's opponents chalked up 35
first downs and completed 13 pahses.
The significant thing Is that eight of
these forward flips were made by
Utah In the first game of the year,
a team Troy had not scouted.
Coach Jones will take 38 players
north tonight, stopping at Castle
wood Country club, near San Jose.
The squad will work out lightly Fri
day and move to Palo Alto Saturday
morning.
