(AP) Plenty of turkey for the hol
iday nd at prices B to 10 cent
lower than last year, was the pros
pect held up to the consuming pub
lic today by George Makln, general
manager of the California Turkey
O rowers' association, after a survey.
"Our survey," said Maklns, "shows
18.8 per cent Increase In live tur
keys aa compared with the same date
last year. The wholesale price av
erage about 10 cent a found less
than a year ago. That la almost SO
per cent cheeper, a fancy turkeys
old last year for 38 or 88 cents
wholesale.
'Growers," said Makln, "should
be warned against dealers, peddlers
and Independent buyer going
through the country advising them
that the market 1 going to piece.
In om Instances they are persuad
ing the farmers to sell their live
turkeys as low aa 18 or 17 centa a
pound. That Is wrong because tur
key from now on will put on about
en pound of flesh per week and
the market will not go to pieces.?
