A savage attack directed effectively

the Southern Oregon Normal eleven

While a great line functioned In
fine style Powell Lancaster and
Claude Hlnes, Suns barttfteld aces,
alashed and tore through the Badger
defense for long gains time after
time.
Bain fell In a downpour through
out much of the third period and
both teams resorted to a kicking
game In which Lancaster had a de
cided edge.
Regulars Called
Until the fourth quarter' Eldon
'Jenne, Pacific coach, used his re
serves while his regulars sat on the
bench saving themselves for the
Badgers Important conference bat
tle with Whitman next week, but
even with bis strongest men In the
game the advantage did not change.
The Sons kept the ball In Pacific
territory most of the time and the
final score came against Jenne's
first stringers after Lancaster, who
had borne the brunt of the normal
running attack had been removed
from the contest with, an Injured
shoulder.
The one time that Pacific had the
Sons In a bad way came In the seo
. ond period when Crttchfleld's kick
was grounded by Fsrgerry on the
teachers' one-yard marker. On the
next play Lancaster was forced to
punt from behind his own goal line
but he got oil a beautiful spiral
which soared and rolled 80 yards
to the Paclflo IB. where Sapp downed
Critchfleld before he could get away.
Hlnes Scores
Hlnes made the first score Just
a few plays after Lancaster had made
bis sensational 60-yard boot and
Critchfleld was taking a chance to
cross up the Sons' defense by throw
ing passes deep in his own terri
tory. After Oahes recovered Kill Its' fum
. ble McKlttrlck who bed gone In
Lancaster's position made four yards
In two attempts off tackle to put
the ball on the Factflo 30. Hlnes
added five more running and then
two Incomplete throws gave Pacific
the ball on their own 16-yard line.
The Badgers failed to make yardage
and the ball reverted to the Sons.
Jones then took a short pass from
Hlnes and drove past the Paclflo
backs for the last score of the game.
Line Holdi Well
Hobaon's line was at Its best de
fensively and needs a little polish
before It will reach Its maximum ef
ficiency on offense. On defense
"Swede" Anderson, the great Med
ford - lineman, was a tower of
strength. The big blond guard play
ed the entire time without a bead
gear and was through the Paclflo
line practically all the time, either
making the tackles or smearing up
the Interference.
Other standouts In the Sons' line
were big Frank Sapp, who perform
ed brilliantly on the receiving end
of many of Hlnes' passes and who
would be down on Lancaster's kicks
to stop the Pacific safety before he
could get started on the return. Lit
tle Con Mahoney, fire -eating midget
center, was anotner shining light on
defense.
The Sons piled up 163 yards from
scrimmage to 08 for the visitors and
made up 11 first downs to the Bad
gers' six. Only In passing did Pac
lflo get more actual yardage but ths
throws all took place where they
did not count heavily or In the
closing minutes when Kllllts and
Welnel threw caution to the winds
and heaved passes all over the field
tn a desperate attempt to keep from
being blanked.
