Starkweather, Democratic candidate for congress from this district, will apeak In Meaford next Monday, it waa announced today by prank DeSouza, chairman of the Jackaon Democratic county central committee. He will speak Monday in this city and continue to Ashland, land Tuesday, where he will speak In the evening under the auspices of the City Democratic committee. A rally will be held in the armory of the neighboring city and elaborate plans are being made for the enter tainment of the Democratic nominee, Monday noon a luncheon, honor ing Mr. Starkweather, will be held at the Hotel Holland in this city and all Democratic county committee men, candidates and all other mem bers of the party are especially In vited. Carl O. Donau&h, chairman, of the state Democratic committee, will also be present to confer with local Demo crats. He will be accompanied by Vernon Wlllams, finance director of the state committee. Other Demo cratic candidates are expected. Attorney DeSouza also announced today that he has appointed an ex ecutive committee to head the cam paign In the county. It la com posed of W. H. Canon, J. Society and Clubs Edited by Eca Nealon , CIVIC MUSIC HEAD SPEAKS TO LIONS The purposes of the Southern Ore gon Civic Music association were out lined today by Arthur W. Manuel, Pacific coast manager ot tne Civic Concert Service, at the noon lunch eon of the Lions club at the Hotel Holland. . The association will bring to Med- ford this season, he assured the Lions three and possibly four concerts. Mrs. Donald Clark appeared before the club to ask all members to buy their tickets to the Fox Cratertan theater at the Rex Cafe this week, in order that the women's division of the county relief council may obtain 35 per cent of the profits to be usea in relief work. Tickets bought at the box office will not benefit the relief movement. Mr. Cary of San Rafael, Cal., was a guest of the club and gave an inter esting account of the pleasant re actions to his visit here, the first one In many years. He listed Medford as one of the most desirable places ne has ever known. Missionary Conference Scheduled for Friday. Members of Home and Foreign Mis- : sionary societies of the Cascade dis trict of the Methodist church are looking for ward to the conference to be held here Friday, October ?. at the Methodist Episcopal church. The all-day meeting wilt be sup plemented by a tea at the home of Miss Helen Carlton, president of the Home Missionary society, who la in viting the guesta to her home on the Old Stage road for 4:30 o'clock. Mrs. A. J. Geddes of Roseburg, presi dent for this district of the Women's Foreign Missionary society, will as sist Miss Carlton as hostess. The conference at the local church will open at 9:30 o'clock and the morning session will be devoted to the foreign missions. Luncheon will be served at 12 and the afternoon meeting will be di vided between the two societies. Numerous speakers of ability and wide experience will be heard on the day's program. The list Includes Ruth Field of India, Miss Mary Young of Korea, Mrs. Edwards, conference worker of the foreign sQciety; Mrs. R. L. Reed, Portland, of the Home so ciety, Mrs. D. J. Maple and Miss Keech, superintendent of the Manley center, and Mrs, J. J. Oerder, who will speak on Alaska. Supper and an evening session win be held at the church. Mrs. Humphreys, Honor Guest at Bridge Tarty Feting Mrs. Ooodwln Humphreys on the occasion of her birUiday, Mrs, F. G. Bunch entertained with a love ly bridge party and handkerchief shower last evening at her home on the Jacksonville road. Rooms were decorated in autumn flowers from Mrs. Bunch's gardens, which are fill ed with many choice blossoms this year. Bridge was enjoyed during the evening, with five tables in play, and prizes were awarded Mrs. Belva Aiken, Mrs. Cole Holmes, Mrs. Roy Watson and Mrs. W. A. Holloway. A guest prize was also presented the honor guest. Eastern Star Dance On Tonight's Calendar. A gala event on this evening's cal endar is the dancing party announced by Reames Chapter No. 66, Order of Eastern Star. Cards will be played in addition to dancing and a large attendance of Reames chapter mem bers, Masons and their invited guests is expected. The affair will be the first of a series planned for the winter social season, and very special plans are being completed to assure Its suc cess. Civic Music Holds I Society's Attention Bridge, luncheon and tea tables are rather deserted these days as mem bers of the leading social groups con centrate their effort m the enroll ment campaign of the Southern Ore gon Civic Music association. Enroll ment week opened Monday night at large banquet at the Hotel Med ford and will continue until Satur day night. And, during the interim, all who love music and all who wish to bring good music into the Uvea of many others are devoting their days to advancement of the associa tion's second year In Medford. The larger the membership this year, the more excellent will be the concerts obtained for the season. With this reward as incentive the workers are giving all possible time to acquainting those not familiar with civic music with the import ance of the association to southern Oregon, Building Bridge Club Meets, Parish Hall.
