FIRST CALLED E IN 1853 Appointed by tha leglslatve assem bly of the territory of Oregon as com missioner of Jackson county, James - Clugage, Nathaniel O. Dean and Abel George conducted their first meeting at Jacksonville March 7, 1883, select ing James Cluggage as president. Dr. C. E. Alexander was appointed clerk of the board on January, 1854. At that time, Commissioners Mar tin Angel, B, B. Griffin and John Glbba composed the board. March, 1854, Patrick Dunn was sworn In to take the place of John Glbbs, and In September of the same year Henry O. Rowland took the place of Mr. Griffin. , J. D. Van Dyke was elected to take the place of Patrick Dunn In July, 1855, and In January of the follow ing year Frederick Heber was elected to take Martin Angel'a place, and and Dr. G. B.
