ley was that seven truckloads of
strikers, averaging 35 men to the
truck, and nine automobiles filled
with men had reached that city at
about 1:45 p. m. today.
Thousand More Coming;.
The caravan paused at the edge of
Missouri Valley for about 30 minutes
and watted until all vehicles arrived.
"We're going to Council Bluffs to
get those men out of Jail," they are
reported to have shouted. "There are
a thousand more coming tonight."
At truck speed, Missouri Valley is
about 40 minutes' drive from Coun
cil Bluffs. The caravan Is expected
to reach here about m. or later.
Meanwhile, adding to. the critical
situation that has obtained here since
Sheriff Lalnson's deputies, with tear
gas and weapons, sought to drive the
plcketers from the highways late yes
terday and early today, was the ar
rival of about 200 plcketers who re
sumed their posts at highway 34.
- Pickets Armed.
This position they had abandoned
this morning, while the deputies were
being mobilized for another attack
upon them.
It was reported, that some of the
plcketers on highway 34 were armed.
Many carried sticks, clubs and other
weapons. Only the experienced depu
ties and police among the sheriff's
crew were armed. The newly depu
tised men carried no weapons.
Several deputies were sent to,Jthe
highway about three miles from here
to mingle among the plcketers and
act as spies upon their movements.

(AP) An Invitation to compete In
the Canadian meet at Vancouver, B.
C, August 39 was declined Wednes
day by Ralph Hill, Olympic star. He
expects to sail from New York In
September to compete with other
Americans In, European games.
